Paint Quantity?

I'm trying to plan out my materials for patching up my track plastics and painting them.

How much paint does it typically take to shoot all of the track bodywork plus the tank?

I was figuring on getting a quart of each for:
- Primer w/ flex additive.
- Paint (base coat)
- Reducer
- Clear Coat
- Plus all the req'd catalysts and hardeners.

Now I just need to find somewhere to shoot it once I get it all prepped. I don't think I want to use the basement due to fumes and the furnace, and the garage is going to be way to cold.

Primer 1/2 quart
Base 3/4 of a quart
Clear up to a quart
Reducer up to a 1/2 gallon

Do nOT spray in house, immediate could cause death or an explosion. Stick to the well ventilated garage but even then good luck.

Thanks Ken.

Yep, explosive mixtures and/or asphyxiation. Neither are very good. LOL

I got a price on some Dupont Nason bc/cc with the quantities above and it's $154 for everything needed to shoot a quart of each including the primer.

You know me Jon. I thought about it, but i can't help but want it to look nice.

I might go rattle can, but the durability just isn't there for the gas tank.

Have my buddy powder coat the tank. It holds up really well, even in a crash. Mine is even textured for extra grip.

So, just out of curiosity...

How many RATTLE CANS does it take to paint a track bike including primer, paint, and clear (if applicable)?

Just to get a price comparison.

5 of each, basically 1 per piece, you will use a bit more on the upper, a bit less on the tail

Rattle can clear coat is a waste of time. Just do Krylon. It's not going to hold up to fuel and rock chips as well as a real paint job or vinyl. I'm going to do a 1 stage base color and vinyl accents next time. I've spend many many hours and lots of money on nice paint jobs. It's not worth it when you crash.

I can check with the powers that be at my office to see if I/(you) can use the spray booth in our paint lab. If it's ok with them, there are 2 caveats, you bring the materials and spray equipment, and can't leave the place a mess

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

Talk to sean at the powder pro, he has done all kinds of crazy stuff. He did a gas tank for me on my RD project as well, turned out great.

That could work. It's gonna be quite a while before I'm ready to paint anything. Hell, it may be mid winter before I'm ready.
