I personally quit cold turkey. I think I smoked about 4 years combined 2 years college and 2 years on and off during my adult life.

When I was a pack a day (11) years strong and quit, I did it through Physical Exercise - Cardio Kick Boxing to be exact (it was the late 90s, give me a break) and I would push myself to verge to puking and passing out with 100lbs lungs chuckin up oysters - I never wanted to touch them again

Then I got back into street riding (early 02) and began smoking again - Did the same to quit only with running this time

I miss smoking EVERY FUCKING DAY

Smoked on and off for about 11 years, consistently the last 8, was between half to full pack a day.

"Quit" a few times in the past, but just "quit" again this New Years. Been good for the most part, still have a few when out drinking (once every couple weeks) but only if drunk. Few beers doesn't bother me.

Went cold turkey. Tried the electronic smoke, but didn't like it as it would just make me crave a cigarette even more.

Agree with Bug. Every. Damn. Day. I crave one. I see other people smoke and want to run up, grab the smoke out of their hands and take off running with it

I tried a couple of cigarettes back in the Army, thought it was pretty nasty so I never picked up the habit.

Oh, and the reason I quit. Not my health, not pressure from my family or friends, because I got sick and fucking tired of giving the government money for them after them jacking the taxes up so much.

Smoked a pack a day from 21 to 31. Got fired from Banzai motorsports for QUOTE: "Taking too many cigarette breaks" ENDQUOTE.

So, I went on the patch the next week and haven't looked back.

I still have a cigar now and again, but never have lit or smoked a cigarette since Sept. 1994. I discovered the joys of the World Wide Web in October of 1994 and that became my new addiction.

They're doing a good job at keeping from driving on the toll way twice a day.

In the past I tried the patch, the gum, the stupid looking inhaler, the e-cig and nothing worked permanently. For me, I just quit cold turkey one day and picked up a different habit. Exercise. The addiction of watching my running times, endurance, speed and weight limits rise was what did the trick for me. I am by no means in perfect shape but I fucking feel great and I've lost 45 lbs so far. If that happens to you and you still want to smoke then you're probably fucked.

Pack a day smoker for 13 years then quit cold turkey 4.5 years ago. Finding out I was going to be a Dad made quitting easy.

Smoked for 17 years, between 1/2 and pack a day. Tried quitting three times, last one being none like others. I have absolutely zero desire to smoke. It's weird. But that's just the smoking habit, I still dip. Though honestly I think my "addiction" was more of a combination of a mouth fixation (bring on the jokes ) and an excuse to take a break from work/reason to shoot the shit with others while drinking, than actually nicotine craving... Anyway, I haven't had a cigarette since I got back from Haji land in April 2010. Don't foresee ever going back to it either.

I quit cold turkey 12 years ago. Im allergic and had enough problems with sinuses and allergies without smoking. My grandmother died of lung cancer. It took me several tries and 5 years to quit after that.

Started smoking "regularly" when I was 13... was up to almost 3 packs a day by the time I was 25. Quit cold turkey... woke up one morning, decided it was gross and that I wasn't going to do it any more. Never had the desire to light one up again - and 21 years later I still think it's gross.

On and off smoker, from 16 to 36.
Up to 3 packs a day before I quit the first time...
That was cold turkey and only lasted a year.

The last time I quick, I used the Lozenge.
I was at about 1/2 a pack a day at this time.
My reasoning was the Sin Taxes.

My biggest issue is, I have an addictive personality.
I must replace one addiction with a new addiction, or I revert back.

I smoked for 20 years. Was smoking 2.5+ packs a day. Third time I quit it stuck. I used the patch. No way I could do it cold turkey. About month after I quit I joined a mens league hockey team. I figured there was no way I could do both. Played hockey for 7 seasons till I broke my leg in a game. No more hockey

The real key for me was reading everything I could about the addiction. It seemed easier when I understood what was going on in my head.

I quit cold turkey. When my 1st son was born I promised him I wouldn't smoke again. That was 6 1/2 years ago. I haven't done it since. I went on vacation for a week and kept myself busy with house work and stayed away from my smoker friends during that time. After the week I was good.
