Original Trilogy Favorite

In honor of my recent rash of Sci-Fi nerdiness, and in honor of Lucas's plan to rerelease the originals on DVD, I'm enacting this poll regarding your favorite Star Wars movie of the original trilogy.

The original is the best.

The others may be better technically, but lack the "spirit".

Funny how that works time and time again...

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

I like Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back the best. It is dark and forboding. From the beginning you feel the sense of desperation from the Alliance. It is especially palpable during the Battle of Hoth where they are scrambling to escape by the skin of their teeth.

BTW, I was rooting for the Empire the whole time.

I think it is Jedi but the one where they are riping through the forest on those bad ass Jet Ski type things and then when they ride those things in the snow that they have to cut open to stay warm

your nerd level is clearly too low for this poll, especially since those were 2 different films.

Yeah, get with it Bug.

You were first referring to the Speeder Bikes on Endor and second you were referring to the Tauntauns on Hoth.

I dont want to bias the poll. I do however have a favorite, and if it doesnt win I'll just add 5000 to its points before I close the poll.

If you're a true nerd there is a CLEAR winner between the 3.

Gotcha. But a true nerd would have strong feelings toward a favorite and wouldn't be biased.

It was so bad ass Luke didn't even know until minutes before they shot the scene.

yeah, none of the actors knew. I think I read that David Prowse didn't even say "I am your father" during shooting. He said something like Obi Wan was your father or something similar and Lucas told Mark to act shocked. Then in post production when James Earl Jones came in and did the voice overs was the real plot revealed.

Some good points by all.

Darth is my favorite character. So from a storyline point of view, Empire was my favorite. Plus the awesome Imperial March. Wow.

Leia in the slave girl outfit? Give me a moment. Okay, I'm back now. Had to grab a tissue to, uh, wipe my nose. Also a great movie.

But, nothing can top the first time going to Star Wars (A New Hope) and seeing the characters, new worlds, space ships, creatures, etc for the first time.

So the vote for best HAS to be the original movie.

And I voted that way to put my money where my mouth is. There is money on this poll right, VCook?

Empire for teh win!

Let's examine the pros for Empire:

1. Best usage of the Force of the three
2. Best ass whipping of the Rebels
3. Best plot twist and character development
4. First sighting of the "Emperor"
5. No Ewoks
6. Han gets Leia sticky....
7. Luke vs. Vader.....Nuff Said!
8. AT-ATs!
9. Nothing Hoakey The Whole Damn Movie!

"Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut off, finds out Vader's his father, Han gets frozen and taken away by Boba Fett. It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down endings. All "Jedi" had was a bunch of Muppets.

Comcast had a tech out at my house fixing the lines and the kid (24-25 y/o) saw my Lego Star Destroyer and asked if I was a fan. We talked about the movies while he was working and I told him about this poll. He voted for Empire hands down. The bad guys rock.
