Are You a Hobby Snob?

Re you the type of person that when they start to do something, get an attitude about it towards others in the same hobby?

For example:He does not have a D50 camera, Sure it's that but it's not this model, or even one of the guys that think the RC airfield is an aircraft carrier.

Are you the type of person that is like as long as you enjoy it the more power to you.?
Vote and discuss

Naa, I couldn't give a rat's ass what someone else is into or how he does it. The exception is if he is doing it with me and is obnoxious. You don't need to be good, but don't be a pain. Then I just don't do it with him a 2nd time.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Lots of hobbies...yes

Hobby snob...no

No matter how much time, effort, and/or money, someone always has better than you do.

In certain areas I am a snob when it comes to my profession. In some cases, when other opinions are given for a specific endeavor, I'll KNOW that I know better... (even though maybe I should just listen) I know work isn't really a hobby, but to me, it really is. I love what I do.

I don't really understand what you mean by snob.

But, within my own interpretation of what I believe you to be saying, yes I am a hobby snob.

I develop a hobby, study up on it in detail. Others who do not immerse themselve in the hobby like myself can not possibly get as much joy as I do from it. I grow jealous of those who have an even stronger deep seeded lust for their hobby. I imagine that their life is otherwise empty and incomplete, that's why they can dedicate more time and energy towards their hobby. Basicly I'm an asshole.

That's it.

Try it this way.

Let's say I want an R/C Hellicopter. I have never flown one before I do not even if I know if I will like it or I know myself and will get bored after an hour with it and it will go in the crap closet.

Knowing this what do I get.

Non snob get a $30 Airhog if you like it upgrade.

Snob no you need a $300 this because the Airhog is crap and I would never ever fly one.

When I was shooting sporting clays...I would always giggle at the "snobs" with their mega bucks custom shotguns...who couldn't hit the broadside of barn, even if they were standing in it I started shooting clays with a $150 K-mart special 870...first time I out I shot a 78 (out of 100), I didn't buy a clays gun until I was consistently shooting in the high 80's. So I guess I'm a snob in reverse...I laugh at the clowns just getting into a hobby and buy the absolute best thinking it will make them "better". I'll "learn" the hobby/sport/whatever with the minimum of equipment/investment, somehow it's more fun that way.

Nope K-mart it was on sale and advertised I went to pick one up at the old Lake Zurich store...they didn't have it in stock...so another 10% off the sale price, and then another 10% for having to wait to get one shipped from another store....OTD just a few pennies under $150...the deal of the century

yes and no. If I find someone into something i'm into, I think that's pretty cool. However, I am critical in my own mind :P I am humble enough to realize that not everyone is at the level i'm at, but I still think to myself "WTF!!! That cheap ass didn't get the upgraded model!"

i like to dabble in a lot of things so i dont have the experiance to be a snob, in the few things i am really good at i dont really care about other people because im so busy trying to perfect my own skill. im a perfectionist for things I do.

Take golf for example i played a game with a buddy and we rented clubs then i decided i was going to play alot so it would be well advised i get my own clubs. did some research then went to the golf shop and asked around about this club or that club and price this and that and finally walked out with a great set of "game improvment" clubs. nike sumo2 driver,Nike 2hybred, Nike OSS irons graphite shafts and an Oddsey 2ball putter. i like the set alot. played every day sometimes 2 times a day from 1st week of feb to march 28th. some guys i would get paired up with found it amazing that i had only played for two months and they had played for 5-10 years and i was getting birdies, and pars to their double and tripple boggies. what they didnt understand was that i devoted all my time to golf videos, pictures, and online tutorials on what i believe is proper tecnique. now im no pro but i have a good shot now and then.

Willard: When I was home after my first tour, it was worse. I'd wake up and there'd be nothing. I hardly said a word to my wife, until I said "yes" to a divorce. When I was here, I wanted to be there; when I was there, all I could think of was getting back into the jungle.
