i like them both back then when they sang with VH since they broke up DLR turned into a person that i dont want to hear anywhere let alone in a bad dream.

i hate speaking badly of him so ill stop.

Sammy has a style that echo's though VH and into some of his own music. his style and performance is great even after.

but back to the subject at hand with VH, i cant choose cause i loved them both when they worked with VH.

Diamond Dave and IMHO the true grit of Van Halen came in Mean Streats.

Everyone was in top form for that album, it's well recorded, and really brings the original Van Halen sound out.

The runner up to this would be 1984 where they hit their "pop peak".

Oh man David Lee Roth was a true showman! man he is what put Van Halen on the map, but Sammy man had the best songs, he put Van Halen int a whole new dimension.
Though my vote goes to David, that style that swag! he just had an attitude that was so freaking cool!

Sammy was good as well but some of my favorites of his are when he was with Montrose.

Seen them both, Sammy has a good voice and good stage presence. DLR just plain kicks ass when it comes to tearing up the whole show and breaking shit onstage. Very hard choice here. Next time make it something like Riding in the rain or not riding at all.

I cant even count how many times this song has been playing in my head while running laps around Blackhawk.

Just a bad as jam. it has me playing drums on my kitchen table as I type this.

Allow me to set the stage for this one. Me in my old cutlass with the top down, 1am in the morning going from bar to bar doing 110 down route 83 with Clarendon hills and oakbrook chasing me, I finally pulled over after I saw the huge line of police cars follow me down the on ramp to I-88,I pulled over and was yanked out of the car at gun point the whole time this song was cranked! 20 years old young dumb and full of cum.

While I definitely like Hagar over Roth as a singer (that Montrose album is one of my favorites of all time, and it gets no better than those guys doing Roll Over Bethoven live)...the David Lee Roth version of Van Halen is just raw, and a little better in my book.

I'll take Sammy with Montrose or on his own but it killed me when he joined VH as to me DLR is just a showman extraordinare and I have sooooooo many memories tied to his music - To me, they "lightened up" with Sammy and IMHO, VH is (was) all about balls to the walls rock and fuckin roll

And whoever made the comment that DLR only sang about taggin ass, find me a true rocker that did not - Shit, every rock band got rich off singing about huntin, killing and discarding ass - Its fuckin rock & roll for fucks sake
