Do you wear a helmet?

Just a simple poll. Doesn't need to turn into a debate

So, I got a ticket for not having a seat belt on.

Welcome to Illinois.

Kids on school busses, no seat belts, no tickets.

Sportbikers with flip flops, wife beater and no helmets. No tickets.

Makes a heck of a lot of sense doesn't it?!

What the heck kind of consistent justice is that?

Justice isn't the reason for it. It's revenue, calculated against political liability. There's enough anti-helmet lobby power to make it not worth the revenue generated.

Bad gas guage in my new van (domestic so to be expected), heading out to Buffalo for the ride today, ran out of gas, busted out dirt bike and hammered down Rte. 56, only to be pulled over immediately and grilled by local PD. Got away scot free and even talked him into letting me ride it back on the highway, loading it up, driving me to get some gas, and driving me back. I rule. And cops rule. (today only)

I know your fuel gauge is broke, but that doesn't mean you have and endless amount of fuel. That's twice you ran out of fuel.

I never wore a helmet until I came here to CLSB. Now I always wear one. I feel safer, more responsible, and no bugs.

Yeah, I hear that. My wife was laughing and saying it was SAFETY related. I got pissed after that, because it clearly isn;t considering my points above.

Then she switched and said it was insurance related... LOL! Again, if I don;t have my seat belt on wrapped by an Excursion, what difference does it make. BUT.... if I fall down on a bike, and have no gear on... BIG Safety ISSUE, and EVEN bigger INSURANCE issue....

Nope no helmet. I won't ever crash so there is no need for it. I'm a cautious rider and will never mess up. I completely trust all other drivers to always see me and always avoid me. Plus, I'd rather make upgrades on my bike instead of wasting money on a helmet or insurance or other useless stuff.

i always worry when my friends don't want to wear helmets. most of them are gear nazis like myself, but others only sport them when they feel the need.

i lie and tell them we're riding in michigan (helmet law) and that seems to do the trick. a white lie to have the peace of mind that my friends are that much safer seems completely justified if you ask me.

That and hair, I don't want my hair to get messed up! Oh, and you look so goofy with that damn thing on!

My ex doesn't wear one when she goes riding on the back. I don't want my kids to grow up without their mother.

Yeah I forgot to mention the issues with hair too. Have you seen how bad hair gets after wearing a helmet? Ick! My hair ends up so flat and blah and its so not cool. Not to mention that the cheek pads remove all my makeup.

Luckily if you go fast enough the bugs won't even hit you so I don't have to worry about that!

The biggest problem is that I can;t wear my glasses. At my age, I need them so I can text while riding. Heck, I can;t even make calls with a helmet on when I am riding, so forget those stupid things. Nothing but a nuisance.

being a roadracers and stunt rider I have had around 13 concusions that I have gone to the hospital for. without a helmet that would of been 13 plus times I would of been dead.

I wear my helmet all of the time. For safety and because it "protects" my hair lol us girls know how without a helmet our hair looks a hot mess. But its a catch 22, because when girls wear helmets, once you take it off...you have "helmet hair." LOL

The last time the guage just went dead, and I knew it was broken, but I "miscalculated". This time it F'd me real good and got stuck at a third of a tank. One gallon of gas will be carried at all times now, seeing as I own two small containers now.
