Are you cutting household and personal expenses?

Curious as to how everyone is reacting to the the current financial news. Are you cutting expenses or cruising along with business as usual?

Poll is anonymous and multiple-answers are allowed.

Just wondering. I cut off my Direct TV service yesterday, as I don't use it much, and won't miss it. I have an antenna for OTA(over the air) TV, and that serves me well. Dropping Direct TV saves me about $50/mo, which I can put toward track days.

Should have another choice for people who are spending more. The only thing we put on hold this year was season tickets to the Lyric, but that expense has been replaced in multitudes by big ticket items. Plus, we are planning a wedding, which on its own is costing a fortune. We have been fortunate that we saved up for all of these expenses so we are only contributing to the economy and not the consumer debt.

I tend to fund my spending by "selling one hobby to afford another". And because nobody is buying guitars, amps, and computers and whatever else I have to sell...then I have no money to spend on other hobbies like my photography (still need an L Bracket and 24-70 f/2.8 lens!) and wanting to build my AR-15 and go shooting more.

Typically I can almost break even on most hobbies, at least if you don't count consumables.

Brianne having her hours cut doesn't help. She's picked up a second job so we can try to stay even with where we were. I, unfortunately, can't take a second job because I'm always on call.

Spending more.

1) Buyers market
2) Help the economy
3) I have lots of things I need to repair, so why take advantage of 1 and 2?

I voted not making any changes, but the only change I did make was cut cable bill.

That was for the reason of the kids watching to much TV as they each have a TV in there rooms. Daughter 10 and Son 4 do not need that much TV. Now only have an over the air on the Plasma for which the digital feed is better then what Comcast even offered..

So if I buy it, I get the $100 off the lowest negotiated price?

I will save money wherever I can, but I never reduce my spending. Trading the 996 for the 675 was a good move, but it didnt cost me anything.

I have a few bike purchases lined up to fill the garage with flips for this spring. Again, it is costing me money today, but will make me money this spring.

Home improvements around my house have been huge. But again, the flooring was less than half price, opening up the wall between my kitchen and livingroom was minimal, and Eric saw my daughters bedroom and her bathroom we remodled. That cost us $37 with some careful planning and craigslist.

So spending more yes. But its a buyers market, so I am getting a lot of bang for the buck.

Trimming down a little here too. Sucks because I've already started several projects I don't want to keep hanging. Exercise room, landscaping, and garage. I am going to be in debt up to my ears over the winter, and hopefully I can pay everything off in the summer. I hope Obama's "change" is scheduled for early next year.

well - my beautiful wife came home from Woodfield mall today with a $34 8oz box of Godiva chocolate.

Cutting back anywhere and everywhere I can right now. Still no luck finding a job - trying to start my own business, but who knows how long till that's actually making any $. I'm about to start taking cash advances on credit cards just to cover mortgage, and had to swallow my pride and let my bf's parents cover Santa expenses for the kids this year.
