Do you wish you could get a career mulligan?

Is anyone completely content in their career? How many of us would like to have a do over for our education/career?

Nope. I love what I do and get paid very well to do it. Get to wear jeans and gym shoes everyday to work and I am out of the elements since I work inside. I work downtown and get to take 2 hour lunch breaks with my friends. Where else can you make over 80k and love what you do. There is not a day that goes by with my new job that I ever think "god I hate going to work". Only grip I have is not doing this right out of HS. I went to the military first and didn't start my proffesion till 95

I've always been less than 100% certain about my career choice, and it seems from the other threads, that there are some others that are on a similar wavelength. I was just curious if this was a universal thing, or just me being a malcontent.

This.

I honestly do enjoy what I do, but like Rob said in the degree thread, you can't help but wonder if the grass is greener elsewhere.

I have and use my degree in mechanical engineering, but at the back of my mind, I always wonder what would have happened if I had gone to med school instead. I guess I always have the option still, just need to take the MCAT and do really well.

That, or I always wish I would have joined the military.

I love what I do for a living, but it's going to burn me out physically. I'll eventually need to go back to school and probably find an office job so I can post on CLSB all day long. Unfortunately, being stuck in cubicleland will probably make me want to kill myself.

I already do.
But normally I don't pay, it's a trade of service- so as long as I maintain a state license and don't get shitty at what I do, it can remain a trade. Not that I mind paying- I just expect a certain quality of work done, and I'm picky about who touches me.

ive had 3 career choices in mind since i was a child.

1. Computer Programmer
2. Firefighter
3. Pilot

I have a BS in MIS. I've already tried computers, and working that killed my passion. i find myself more of a tech and gadget enthusiast than a programmer these days. i dont want to join the military or have 60k-100k to get all my pilots licenses and it doesnt look like the field is doing all that well. So I'm going firefighter. I can keep my hobby/passion in computers on the side, as well as get my pilot licenses over the years. So it really feels like a good mix of everything I want out of life.

I signed up and started EMT-B school back in August, I graduated in December and I take my state certification on Jan 23rd. So I'm hoping to be an EMT working a fulltime job on private ambulances come March. Then Hopefully by Fall '10/Spring '11 I will be in Paramedic school for another 9mo-1yr and get on a fire department.

We'll see how it goes.

I already did a do-over. I worked in Marketing/PR and found it insanely boring and unintellectual, so I went back to finish my engineering degree. I didn't plan to become a DoD consultant but I wound up here and I love it.

Yeah, sometimes I sing in the car or work on my bike or cook a great meal and imagine having some sort of other job but who doesn't?

I get paid really well, I get a nice balance between managing and doing, my opinions are respected, I work on a variety of different subject areas, and I have a flexible schedule. I get enough travel to satisfy my cabin fever but not so much (anymore) that I'm burned out. Plus, my office has a sweet view of the Riverwalk.

Do I sometimes want to strangle people at work? Yes. But even if I worked for myself I'd have those moments, so I won't fool myself into thinking the grass in greener ...
