on my monitor the difference is noticable lol. Ya should save it as a .gif with the background of the avatar set to transparent. Make it much easier, and usable on multiple forums.

there's a tool out there on the web that is like a universal eyedropper tool. you can point anywhere on your monitor and it will match the color code. you could try that to get it right on.

Saved as .gif with transparency checked but is saves with white background. Using Photoshop 6.0 what gives. Haven't played with this for a while, so any help appreciated.

what you have to do is erase the background. As you erase it (using either eraser, or magic selecting the background area and pressing the del button), there should be a gray-black checkered background showing.

Thats what I am seeing. I even deleted the background layer so it's just the dog.

5 years since I joined and I have more than doubled my post count in 10 minutes

+1. better yet, save it as a PNG if size allows

I think the background on here is 80, 80, 80 (RGB)

just fyi, go to File>Save for web... and select GIF. then select the Eyedropper Tool, click on the white background and click the small checker board button. Or, eliminate the background by using the pen tool to start with
