Grove tomarrow.. questions..

so tomarrow will be my first trip to the dragstrip with a bike..

i have a LONG history of drag racing cars, so i'm new to the strip, but i have NO idea what i need to run there..

i have a 2000 CBR 600 F4 with a gear and pipe, so i'm guessing mid to high 11's?

what do i need to run that? right now i have a Joe Rocket Ballistic jacket (NOT Leather), Helmet, Gloves. will that be enough? do i need leathers?

thanks in advance.

I think full leathers/tether kill switch are only required when you're running 9:00 or less. Pretty sure a chain guard is required.

On NHRA certified tracks if I remeber correctly Any 10 Sec or above 120 MPH Trap and you need Full Leathers. Sub 10.90 and you need a kill switch.

Most tracks stick with these including Great Lakes but they are not always very strict with the rules.

I dont go to the other tracks but i hear they are cracking down also(due to ins. costs)
but @ 66 (a nhra track) to run a bike in the 11s you need full leathers for any thing that will trap over 120 mph that f4 might
and a teather/kill switch (you can make one very easy) for any thing that breaks 10.99
oh yeah over the ankle leather boots/shoes leather gloves, and a snell 2000 helmet..what you cant race in flip flops w t f
a stock chain guard is fine

You should be fine at the grove! For your first time I dont think you'll be setting the track on fire! SO I say you should be in the low 11 range and about the 120 range! Post up how you do when you get back and ride safe!!

but a set of leathers is a good investment if you plan on doing any type of racing

I think it will take you a couple trys before you get a 600 over 120 mph. On a stock suspension it will wheelie first which will make you get of the gas and kill your drive. But it can be done but hard to do.

One trick is to raise your forks in the triples, that makes it harders for the biek to wheelie. Then raise them back for the ride home.

just my .02 cents.

thanks.. i have been lauching and racing the bike on my own "local" dragstrip.. the front comes up about 6 inches if not less, but it will go back down right away and i can go pretty good.. lauching seems to be my weak point, i either bog, or ride the clutch too much.. i will get it...

I ran 11.8 @ 119 on my F4i, bone stock and I couldn't launch for shit either. You'll be in the mid 11's no problem and around 125.

Just keep in mind, you're racing against the track and not the other guy in the lane next to you. so many people think that, and that's how you lose focus at the job at hand.

If it is your first time out, make sure you look over the bike, loose bolts, or any other thing that seems out of whack.

maybe your first and second run, should be easy runs so you can get an idea what the bike is doing. so you could make adjustments, tire pressure, rider position, how hard to luanch, where to shift.

go with a open mind, just because you read in magazines how fast bikes are in the 1/4 mile. its usally a different story once you get on the bike and make some runs and find out how much harder it is to go in a staight line fast.....

and most important "You ride the bike and don't let the bike ride You"

Have fun

I think more people from this site should come out to byron! Once a month they a bike weekend! There techs are easier on the street bikes besides ask on any other forum and they will tell byron loves the bikes more then any track! all for 25.00 for the whole day! rt. 66 is nice but 55.00 from 4to10!!

drag racing is in my blood, i have been up to Grove every year since i was 16 running anything with 4-wheels on it.. now its time to try two

for sure.. plus Grove repaved the track again, so i would like to make sure theres no dips in it like have been in the past.

i would be happy if the bike ran an 11.9999999 its my first time at the track on a bike.. i don't expect much..

So if anyone wants to come up there.. i will be there on my bike with some freinds of mine in there cars, Look for a BIG white enclosed car trailer, with a big NHRA logo on the side, being towed by an older Dodge Truck.. thats were i will be.

a "run card "@ 66 is 25 dollars...if you can manage to arrive between 4 and 5 pm before it starts to get buisy.you will get more than enough passes..back 2 back 2 back dragracing passes is not too good on your clutch..if i get there before 5 pm i usually average 15- 20 passes so who is blowing smoke up your ass with the 55.00 price tag?

The run is 25.00 How much is it to get in the door??? Trust me I think I know enough about drag racing I dont need someone telling weather to hot lap a bike or not! So your telling me in 5 hours you getting 20 passes thats 4 an hour! Lets say a few different bikes there each time so now your stagding every 15mins! Let me know when you need a clutch I get a good discount on them!!
