7/7/04 Harleys at Da Grove Report!

There was a make-up date last week (6/30) but I missed it due to work/family issues. Rats!

Here's my report for this week:

Got soaked heading up to the track last night. Got there around 6:30, hoping to make a handful of passes to help establish my dial-in but because of weather concerns, racing started EARLY. I made one preliminary pass, cut a new "personal best" light (0.024) and had the bike pop out of gear going into 2nd. Ended up with 12:94/108.39.

Figured that with the cooler temps things would be fast... so I set it at 12:26.

Went up to the line for the first round of elminations... dumped the clutch at around 6 grand, gave her a happy, honking fistful of throttle and proceeded to ride out a wild, fishtailing start! Unbeknownst to me, track conditions were VERY uneven - the left lane was so sticky threads of VHT pulled away from the soles of my feet... but NOT SO on the right! After violently snapping back into shape, I finally achieved FORWARD motion, running a dismal 13:227/109.660.

I immediately went back to the staging area to make some more time runs. The right lane sucked for me the rest of the night but I managed some halfway-acceptable times in the left lane. And I do mean "halfway" - best was a 12:539/109.66. Best 60' was 2.158, on the first lap of the evening.

I asked John what I should have done when the bike started getting out of shape... I guess the key is to stay steady on the throttle while finessing the back brake until things straighten out. We'll try that the next time.

Which will be next Wednesday, July 14!

You'd be surprised at the number of drag racers on this forum.

I dunno... if those are LEDs... they behave very similarly to conventional bulbs. I'm using the same launch pattern as I did the last couple of years and performance is about the same.

I was at GLD two weeks ago for sportbike night. Awesome time, better than I would have ever thought. I ran a best of 13.1 on the SV, not great but fun. My RT and 60 ft sucked, could have been well into the 12's if I could take off better. Anyway, good time, highly recommended.

yeah.. they are LED's you can see the differance when they light up.. the green is still a conventional light bulb.. the old flood style lights they used to use were a HUGE differance..
