Pinks

Couple Q's...I saw this show advertised which will air on Speedvision called 'Pinks'. Anyone here of it? Wondering if they're for real or what. I don't get Speedvision, but there might be some emotion as guys are forced to part with their rides I imagine, so might be worth downloading the show...is it new or has it been around? By the way, anyone here ever actually drag for slips? That didn't sound right for some reason...

Yeah, it's for real...but a lot of the vehicles are sponsored drag machines, built by shops and not really someone's personal vehicle...some are though, and it can get heated at times. These week's is two Hyabusa's that i guess gets really heated.

Theres an episode you can load if you have "On Demand" from Comcast. Its a cool idea for a show but its a little corny, the host bothers me I guess. He's like Ryan Seacrest with an attitude.

Not a bad show at all, the one with the vrod was was fake as it was found out that it was a rental bike from a local realership. but it was one of the first shows, I'm guessing they faked the first few to get some buzz rolling and get some real competitors.

It kind of funny that the host tries to build up the tension and competition and the competitors are usually pretty matter of fact.

I like the show but the host is trying too hard to be a bad ass. He's not fooling anyone. All scowling and flexing like he's out to prove something.

It's usually pretty good. Sometimes I wonder why the racers accept an obvious loss when their car is on the line. That's not how street racing works. Like the recent episode with the two foxbody Mustangs-- one was obviously quicker and had more money into it and the slower guy who barely beat him with like 6 lenghts agreed to only taking two lengths on the deciding race and lost pretty bad.

There was one episode with a late 80s/early 90s fwd Quad 4 Cutlass Ciera sedan against a old Hot Rod and I'm like why bother racing? Why would you want the stupid Cutlass?

There was an episode inthe first season with two bikes. One guy was from Chicago and had a Busa and just spanked the other guy. Some of the racing is good, but the host pushes too hard on stupid comprimises. And some of these people are just plan nuts like the last show with the two mustang. The one guy wanted an astronomical amount of lengths for the first run and he had no clue what the cars would do.

It is on every week on Speed (second yr). I DVR it and watch every week. Of course.. sometimes I skip through the host crap... he annoys me.

Anyhow, sometimes some good racing, sometimes... a waste of time. Looking forward to the bike race this week. (Busas)

Ya I have never seen one go down for pinks. I've heard it suggested a few times but the other party always punked out. I have seen a boat load of cash change hands on some races though. It did get old though, you would sit around for 4 hours while two idiots bicker about the details of the race and inspect each others gixxer 750 heads to see if its a new gasket and a possible 907 kit was installed, then finnally, maybe end up with a race, only to have someone complain about a bad launch only to go through all that hassle of negotiation again. It was comical.

A guy I used to race cars with had about 15 cars he had won on weekend Pinks. He would risk those cars on most races.. and his nitrous Vette (427) only on very rare occasions. He did it for years.

He lost a lot of cars, but never one that he had paid for.

I think the host is pretty good. That's a hard job to do good. It would be hard for a host to BS his way thru the show. Pretty sure he knows street racing fairly good. Plus he has to deal with two large groups of testosterone filled gearheads, plus he has to steer the show so one dude doesn't win in three straight races.

Eric

The street scene in KC has completely sucked since '99. I never saw a single race for pinks... Last decent time I had there was in late, late '99 down near the plants on the river when we had 200+ cars and guys doing christ airs up and down the street for hours...

It's not the fall that hurts... it's the sudden stop at the end...

Watch it all time on Speed. Ever done it myself.

South side was nothing to 8 second car's roll out of a trailer and run mostly for cash.

I'll have to see if I can download a couple episodes...sounds interesting. Anyone keep up with the street racing in Chicago? I know it used to be out towards Midway near the krispy kreme, but checking their last summer I saw the cops opened the hydrants on the streets a few times so I wonder where everyone goes to when they do that.

Doty. We probably ran into eachother at some point in time if you were out often. I was whoring out this LS1 against everything I could find for cash between 2000 and 2002. Only lost 4 races out of 30+ over a couple of years, but had a lot of near jail experiences. 2 of those cars were also on a 28" slick when I was on a baby 26" drag radial, so I didn't even care.

Northside Harlem was where i spent my days, but never raced for pinks or even money. Just cruise pick-up a race (follow a car you want to race till he pulls over), talk and go over to Forest Preserve Dr. and run. I had one guy in a Mustang do this to me when I was in my Challenger. I was following him to FPD when he popped his clutch to burnout and I just floored it and left two strips as I was going around him. We never did race

Back in around 98-99 we had a section of Elston between Fullerton and Webster that we ran with the bikes. An unmarked would sit right next to the Popeye's there and turn on his strobes when a car was turning so we wouldn't run. Very cool. Don't see anyone run there any more. There also used to be a bike speed shop there, can't recall the name of it though, I think the owners may have had some pull with the fuzz.
