man i got sunburned...couldnt stay anymore after 245 cause i was sweating like crazy....damn nice runs with the twisted speed folks running this classes today...some fast freaking street bikes out there...
some of my time runs were not that great...NOW MIND YOU that i have never taken this bike down the track before and only street riden her before...running on my 97 cbr 900rr
1st, had a problem getting the bike to get into 3rd gear...happened 2 timesheading down the track...1st time run was DISGUSTING...lifting the front tire i got:
reaction time.562 on the .500 tree...
60' was a paltry 2.115
and went trough the traps at 12.087 @ 115.42
2nd run became even WORSE...same damn problem with 3rd gear NOT GOING into gear...
but reaction time dropped to a nice .156
with a 60 foot time of 2.070
and going through the traps at 12.218 @ 117.81...
so i talked to my friend mark (outplayn on some boards) and a few other people and i went and adjusted both the shift lever at my foot and played with the clutch a bit more...now mind ya that the bike was going through the traps in 3rd gear...
well, i got some KICK ASS movement on times from doing that...
3rd run, lifting the front wheel yet again got me:
r/t of .294
60' @2.026
and went through the traps at 11.711 @ 117.39 mph
so i played with the gear selector a bit more and then got on my 4th run:
r/t of .187 with the bike reaching for the sky and riding it out...
60' @ 2.259
and going through the traps with 11.867 @ 121.67 <---BEST MPH YET...
so i left everything alone and then let the bike cool off...went back for my 5th run:
r/t of .300
60' @ 2.075 with just minor lift
but hit the traps at a best 11.689 @ 118.62 <---best ET...while still trying to find the sweet spot for shifting at the right rpms...
after the 2nd run, im hitting the traps in 4th gear now...by that time it was alreay 230 this pm and im sweating like crazy and just cant take the sun anymore so i rode home...
so i have a good base to start at now, and know that if i hit the shifts at the right time & rpm's i can gain another .2 to .5 pick up in seconds...overall...not too bad for a 100% street bike thats 10 years old, CARBED and having to make adjustments to her on the fly...one thing i know for certain is i need to get a steering dampner...almost everytime she started headshaking on me and i rode right through it...but tis a pain in the ass to do that and still try to run a fast #...
2nd thing i have to do is get the trans looked at and prolly swap out the clutch...bike just turned 17k miles on her and as far as i know, its NEVER been replaced...
3rd is she needs a new chain and sproket set up as its just at the mark to replace them...she still runs like a raped ape, and i know with final adjustments i can for sure be at low 11's or possably high 10's...
overall...NOT a bad start...especially dropping almost a full SECOND off my runs...lets see how the weather next weekend looks and maybe i'll be back out with her...the weather was for shit and i know if it wasnt so hot and humid out i can easily pick up more speed and time...

who the hell is chris elliot?...im blanking out about that one...
and i didnt think about asking mark to take it down...he actually took off on johns bike just before the last time run i made down the street...i dont think he had any gear with him either...and the bike sits too tall for joey (atrim) to ride it so that wasnt about to happen....

you guys have to remember that my bike is a freaking wheelie machine...its simply amazing that i can get the bike to lauch with out lift on the street, but with a freaking sticky ass track, she wants to come up all the time...and i didnt want to burn out the clutch trying to ride the shit out of her so i dropped my rpms to stop the lift...which is prolly why my 60' times are for crap...

i only had about 4 or 5 passes running consistant 11.1s, and finally i found the sweet spot. bike is stock other than -1 front sprocket and yosh slip-on. stock ride height too.

i DIDNT mess with tire pressure...what i run on the street is what i ran on the track...no need to mess with that...and i didnt do a single burn out with the track temp being to hot out...my shit stuck like glue with these tires, even though im not a huge fan of the metzlers...but the deal was too good to pass up...
when i was hitting the end of 3rd gear i was no where near the finish line and just about at redline...so shifting had to be done...going through the lights i had the rpms sitting prolly about 7k or so...

i went with leather jacket, leather gauntlets gloves, helmet, high tops that covered the ankles and jeans...
i have to swap out my chain and sprockets here soon cause they are at the end of life really soon now...
with a carbed bike, you guys have to remember that our bikes get touchy with higher humidity and temps, unlike fuilie bikes...so our bikes actually SLOW DOWN as they are carbed...and yesterday was freaking NASTY...blech...

I ran 11.5's on my 95 katana 600 back in the day, that 900 can surely do better. Get some extended swing arm mounts and push that back wheel out, drop the rear and strap the front down.
HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

You did good for the 900rr. Even strapped down it's hard to launch that bike due to the short wheel base. Getting into the 10s is going to be a stretch without having a 130lb rider. (I don't know what you weigh)
As others have said the 60ft is the trick with a 121 mph trap you should be able to get the ET down to a low 11.
No disrespect Tony, and I know it's been awhile but are you sure it wasn't 12.5's? I had a 94 GSXR-750 and it would be lucky to run a 11.50 being piped and jetted. I know guys with 1200 bandits with 120hp at the wheel are putting down 11.20s to 11.50s trapping 120s. The 95 Katana 600 has about 85 hp tops with being piped and jetted - 95hp and weighed in over 440lbs. Top speed on a Katana 600 was only around 130mph.

i weigh about 215 lbs...you guys also have to remember about the temp and humidity level that was in effect on sat...if i was to go back this weekend again, i can knock and easy .2-.5 off my times with the differance in temp/humidity like we have going on today...i need more time on the bike to learn how to launch her with a sticky ass track...everytime the front came up on me...i just need a bit more time and i dont doubt that i can get her into the low 11's...maybe even quicker...i was messing around with shift points also so now im gonna have to pay attention to that...
as far as extending the swingarm....not gonna happen...i want her 100% stock...not strapped...not lowered...the bike is perfect for me as she sits...work on the launch and shifting and i can be killing my times even further...with 2.0 60' times, that should tell ya im holding back on the launch...
