AMRA All HD Drags

I received an email and it informed me the AMRA ALL Harley Drag Racers will be running this weekend at the Grove. I know there are both HD and Drag racing people on the board...anyone going? I might go up for awhile on Saturday to check them out...I haven't been to the ALL Harley Drags in years and they put on an excellent show AND...sound SOOO SWEET!

I think I still have t-shirts from some of their 1988-89 events. We may be there on Sunday.

'88 & '89...Great Lakes...Kokomo Ind....Sturgis... Pete Hill, Tator Gilmore, Jim McClure, Monte "Dirty White Boy" Mathias, Lori Dalton on her Pro-Stock Sportster..."Big" Rich Wegner running the AMRA out of Itasca...Was it really that long ago?

I don't know where Pete Hill or Tator are today, Jim was injured when the head blew off of his engine...damaged his heart so bad he died waiting for a transplant...brought on rules in All HD drags for straps etc. to secure the heads on fuel bikes...Monte was murdered...And I have no idea what happened to Lori...but, she preceded Angele Sampy by a decade as one fast lady on a dragstrip!

The HD's don't turn the ET's or MPH of the foreign bikes...but the sound alone makes for a better show!

My ex-husband held the #2 M/XL plate in '89... John's ex-wife had #1 or #2 in M/FL... then went on to run "A" Fuel until she had a big crash (I think in Bowling Green)... she may have been the first woman running in the fuel classes, not sure.

That M/XL sportster sat in John's basement, in milk crates, for 10 years - he resurrected it (basically put it back together and threw a new tire on the back)... took it back up to the Grove and with Carl Alanen piloting, it ran consistently in the 10's, with RUST falling off of it!

I remember Rich and LeAnn... I'll have to check with John (he's a walking history book from that time frame) - we'll look for ya up there and will definitely say "hi"!
