July 15th drag racing

Well, all the talk about the drag racing has me wanting to go. So I'm planning on going to Rt. 66 on July 15th, a Tuesday night test 'n' tune. Let's all show up and see what they'll do. $10 at the gate as a spectator, then another $25 for a run card. I plan to get there when the gates open to take full advantage. I'll post times when I get them.

BTW, if ya don't know Rt. 66 is in Joliet south of I-80 on Chicago St.(Rt.53)

My wife thinks we're a bunch of Top Gun wannabes with our call signs, so for future reference, I'm Roger

A friendly wager? What were your times again?

PS...if my bike doesn't run low 10's I'll sell it. I'm hoping to get a 9 second pass some day. My old '92 1216 GSXR ran 10.16 @ 138.

I have seen guys wear textile jackets but I don't know if they will allow that at speeds over 120mph. I will check it out and post all their rules when I get a chance.

I might just have to take you up on that with my crawlin 20 year old 750.

Tech sucks at 66. I've run quite a bit faster than 120 at GLD with a textile jacket and jeans.

I think your physics are a little off... In order to shoot a chain link at my face, you'd actually have to be in front of me.

OK. Here's the requirements straight from the NHRA rulebook.

1. Must have a chain guard to cover the width and the top run to at least mid-sprocket and .060inch steel or 1/8th inch aluminum OR stock chain guard
2. Minimum 2 inch ground clearance
3. Motorcycles 10.99 or faster must have a lanyard style kill switch.
4. any rider running 9.99 or faster must have an NHRA competition license.
5. All competitors must have a valid driver's license.
6.SNELL 90 or 95 helmet required.
7. Full leathers required if running 120mph or faster
8. All riders required to wear leather jacket, over the ankle boots, and gloves, and SNELL approved helmet.

I will call tomorrow to see if they will allow textile jackets for speeds under 120mph.

Also the book gives 1/8th mile requirements so I don't think you can just shut down early to fool them.

My wife thinks we're a bunch of Top Gun wannabes with our call signs, so for future reference, I'm Roger

What if I claim I'm a pansy and can't run over 120? Or do they assume the speed per engine size?

there are ways around this!

few simple ways around the rules at 66! 1 they dont judge on size and speeds never gave us a problem about it! 2 IF WANNA run fast tell them your there to make your NHRA lic runs!

Well we know I can't ride it

As far as those roads I hope they are in a straight line for me to keep up with ya (as you where about 15+ bikes ahead of me in just about every turn)

However in the 1/8 and 1/4 mile runs I would be more that happy to take 1 to 4 Pepsi's from ya.

And I will give you back a pepsi or 2 for that great advice I got from you!....Thanks again!!
