Supra beat my TL

Well kind of. Last week I was downtown with some friends riding around...we all took our girls wherever they wanted. When getting back on the expressway this Supra zips past the guy riding in front while getting on the on ramp. So just for kicks I take off after the Supra and catch up in about 1/2 a mile. Don't think he noticed me till I pulled up beside him, but when I did I heard him downshift and just takeoff. I did the same for about 2 seconds then thought about it and figured three things...I had a passenger with me, my exit was less than a mile away, and there was lot's of Friday night traffic. So I conceded and pulled into the right lane. Now he shifted and took off first, so I'm not sure if I would have ever pulled on him again because it seemed like he sprayed. We were doing 80 and after he accelerated I could hear his tires spinning as he took off. I'm not sure that just adding a turbo would give that kind of power, but I don't know that much about Rice Racers.

I used to see one in Chicklet Purple around my area.

Oh Yeah, Rice Boy and Rice Racer are offensive terms, the aformentioned should only be referred to as Wangsters.

Mine (supra tt) is a BPU car. And it'll smoke most stock middle weights at a 100 punch. It'll probably beat a stock v twin. (mille, TL, Rc etc) at the same.
Bikes are not that fast over a 100 mph. (well 600s...lol)
The new liter bikes are pretty darn *stupid* fast!! They are crazy. Last time I checked not too many 600s go 180 mph...hell liter bikes either, for that matter. LOL

It's not that hard to make Supras REAL fast!...and I doubt that he sprayed it either.

The newer models where from 93-98 4th gen (with six round lights for the rear). 6 cylinder, twin turbo with 320hp from the factory. 500-600hp is VERY easy to get with these cars.

Supras with the right mods are some of the fastest cars on the planet. 1100 is a popular HP rating for highly modded supras like crazy says. They can run 8-9 sec quarter all day, and then drive home.

9's yes, 8's are a lot harder. They have IRS and can't launch all that well when they have mucho power. I think one guy finally broke into the 8's without converting to a solid rear axle.

My buddy had one until he t-boned somebody with it, but he let me drive it all the time. It had the standard BPU stuff and damn that thing was fast. I imagine the guy that you raced had a large single turbo on it. The power curve with that kinda stuff is like nothing, nothing, nothing, 1000hp so it would be easy to break tires loose.

Better pics

Plans for Toyota to introduce a replacement for its Supra sports car are gathering pace, according to sources. The rendering above is an indication of what such a twenty-first-century Supra might look like, but we'll all just have to wait until this October's Tokyo motor show for the real thing (or a show concept at the very least).

Due on sale in 2004 and based on the upcoming second-generation Lexus IS platform, the new coupe (which might get a new name) is said to be a modern interpretation of Toyota's classic 2000GT of the 1960s. Engines are set to be 3.0- and 3.5-liter normally aspirated V6s matched to a six-speed close-ration transmission.

The curvy, compact, all-new sports coupe is expected to be a direct competitor to the Nissan 350Z. The previous Supra was last sold here in the 1998 model year, by which time it, like the last-generation Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo, had suffered dwindling sales as a result of high sticker prices and spiraling insurance costs. As Nissan has done with the 350Z, Toyota wisely will avoid expensive and complex twin-turbo engines for the new Supra, which should allow for asking prices in the $30,000 range.

I've heard rumors and seen some spy pics, but no real evidence of the supra coming back. Toyota does need to do something to come back at Nissans 350Z, so it's very possible. The Celica sure as hell don't cut it.

The car at the bottom of this pic is supposedly the 2004 Supra, but I doubt it will look much like this.

The number I've seen in the mags, put the TL actually a little slower than most of the current 600's. It's just heavy. and with a passenger, even a stock Supra might make a good run of you, if you not in the powerband. There are too many factors. A fair contest if a roll-on from about 50mph or so.... puts both vehicles squarly in 2nd gear and takes away the skill needed ot launch the bike.

If they do come out with a new supra it's gonna be more like the 350Z. Not really a bad boy. NO turbo no longer a I6...but who knows....

Not sure if this is the place for the info, but while we're on the topic...I was looking at the M3 and putting some toys into that. They seem pretty light to start off with and the speed is great on the stock ones. I imagine that there are some mods available for BMW's?

Toyota has a nice V-8 in that Lexus GS400.

I'd love to see them make something exotic to reflect their investment in Formula 1. Maybe take the 4.0L Lexus motor, tweak it a little then add a 7 speed sequential semi - automatic gearbox. Give it some mean bodywork with Toyota styling and market the thing a being bred from F1 racing.

As long as it's not turbo'd it's gonna be junk

The huge following the old supras have is because they built the car to handle 500rwhp totally stock. Maybe the new supra engines and transmissions could do that as well, but take away the stock turbo setup and it's not about just removing hoses and adding boost controllers anymore. It's gonna be putting new pistons in to handle boost and things of that nature. It's a bad idea to make these NA cars just to compete with the 350Z.

Nissan is supposed to put out a turbo Z next year, supposedly, maybe the turbo is in it's future.

How you found us: My psychic advisor told me about it

I've seen that ad (or one just like it) that Moto178 posted. I fwd'd it on to my friend Warren, who speaks fluent Japanese. According to the page, the Supra is going to become more of a "touring" car, rather than the badass GT-performance car that it was. I guess kind of like an Infiniti 350Z - the luxury of the Infiniti G35, but with the "sports orientation" of the Nissan 350Z.

Read: soft. More of an old-man's car. It's no longer a "sports" car, it's a "sporty" car. Kind of sad. But I doubt they'll repeat the same mistake again with the MkIV Supra. It truly was a high-caliber car... but the target market for the car didn't match the income bracket required to purchase it... so they didn't sell very well. Notice now how they're becoming so popular on the used market - the guys that the car was marketed to back when they were available new, can now afford to buy one (tho at $30k+ for a USED car, it's a little steep!!!)

I HAVE heard other rumors about Toyota releasing a new "GT" class car, similar to the MkIV, with a 400hp version of the Toyota N/A V8. But I've also heard that it will be built to compete with the likes of the Porsche Turbo and Viper markets... complete with $80k+ pricetag.
