Ticket question...
I got a ticket from the State Troopers for the first time ever. I mailed in my payment and I received my license back. But along with the license is a letter saying that I have to pay a reinstatement fee of $70! WTF! My fine is not enough? Anybody have an idea what this fee is?
People take these things too seriously!

Not sure about IL, but in WI a trooper can suspend your license on the spot. Which is kinda Ironic, because if they don't arrest you, you are now driving without a license.

If he took your license, consider it suspended, which means you have to pay to get it back. The double fine is kinda BS, but how they make revenue.

Similar happened to me tbh. Got a ticket in Iowa paid tickets on time 500$ got my license back, week later got a letter saying I'm banned from driving and riding through Iowa and to reinstate my license in iowa I need to pay 200$... So I called asked WTF , she said that I need to pay it to renew my license... I asked why, she said that for the kinds of tickets I got that's how it works... So I said w/e I just renewed my livense a month ago... I did renew my license since then since I moved, but I didn't pay 200$

If the cop takes your driver licence it does not mean that your licence is suspended. You can legally drive using the ticket as your licence.

Turns out it was a "clerical" error. I should not have received the letter about reinstating my license. Fuckers probably hoped that I would send the money without questioning it.
People take these things too seriously!

Consider yourself lucky. I just paid $300 in WI with a mandatory court appearance.
Judge was nice & waived the re-instatement fee.

Oh & FYI WI does not always use radar. I was paced.

As an LEO myself, IL is the only state that uses (or can use) your D/L as bond. Once the ticket is paid, you get your license back.

My job stops as soon as I give you your ticket. I know ISP is hurting for money right now, so the court cost probably got bumped up... But for 25 over, that sounds about right *shrugs*
