Ftmfp!!

So i just got got a ticket on I-55 for doing 79. I'll admit i was going a little fast but i was tired and just wanted to get home from my 16hour shift. anyway I just want to get things straight. I asked the cop if i could see the radar, he said no. I said i thought it was my right. and he said, verbatim "No you don't have that right. you don't have rights" I was like WTF!?! I didn't want to argue and get arrested so I just sa there and didn't say anything even though i probably should have. Is this true? Do I not have the right to see proof of me going that fast? It was in dupage county. Does cook county only allow you to see the radar?

Yeah, while you do have some rights,

Walking over to the officers vehicle and inspecting his radar equipment is not on of them.

I55 is a huge speed trap. I'm just as guilty as you, I got popped for 75 in a 55 earlier this year. Same deal, exhausted and driving. I was able to get the officer to lower the tickek to 75 (clocked at 82).

My experience is that when you are stopped by a LEO and are at the side of the road, you only have whatever rights they wish to let you have. The rest of your rights are pretty much up to the lawyers to argue about later.

Many years back (over 25 yrs ago), I was stopped at 3AM on Interstate 10 somewhere in the Arizona desert by an AZ trooper. The road was deserted, and it was a new moon, so there was no light at all. He ticketed me for 73 in a 55 (which I was doing) and then at the end thanked me for being so nice about it. I said to him "Well, I'm unarmed and out here in the middle of the night, in the middle of the desert, with an armed man who carries a badge. It's not like I have much leverage here." He chuckled and said, "yea, I see your point".

I'm surprised he still ticketed you for the speed. Most cops who pull over somebody doing something like 73 in a 55 at night on an empty road are looking for other things.

Yea, you dont have to see the radar. It's up to the officer. I find it's an officer safety issue if an officer does let the driver see it.

As for what he said, maybe he did say that exactly. I don't know why. But I have found it's hard to hear exactly while pulling cars over on the highway with wind and other traffic passing by.

Shit even I'm afraid of getting pulled over by state!

I've had a few run in's with the law in my day. First, cops are allowed to say whatever they like to control a situation. I was told I would lose my license if I refused a breathalizer once(not true). The only option you have would be to hire a lawyer to fight the ticket and request a tape of the squad car video to prove that you "weren't speeding". If you were?, well then your good and fucked. However most stations expunge there tapes very promptly after 30 days(which I also learned the hard way).

The 1961 Ferrari 250GT California. Less than a hundred were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love. It is his passion.

It is his fault he didn't lock the garage.
