Speeding ticket in WI

Was going 85 in a 65 and got a ticket. In Wisconsin, that's one hell of a ticket. Same amount of points on your license as reckless driving, dui, or evading an officer! How will this ticket affect my IL license? Debating whether it's worth the hassle to drive up to Juneau in April and possibly be stuck with the fine anyway.

Get an attorney up there, should get offers in the mail. For $75 I had a 15 mph over changed to a parking ticket. A non-mover, but fine was an additional $125.

Lawyer. You might not even need to go up there. It's all about money these days, so they might just increase your fine to plead to a lesser charge and not have to make an appearance. Ask the lawyer specifically if you have to show up to make the deal.

Court appearance isn't required, but it is a $276 ticket. I'm just wondering how this ticket will affect my license since Illinois doesn't operate on the same system as Wisconsin. I'll gladly pay the fine and move on.

I'll wait till you get a ticket for having IL plates going 5 over up there, Greg!

Let's just say I've had a few tickets from cheeseland and the best thing to do is what others have already suggested. Lawyer up. It really is worth the money especially if they can manage to lower your offense as well as save you a trip back up to WI. BTW there is no such thing as supervision in WI so don't hope for that. Also, from experience, WI records show up almost immediately on your IL record so expect your insurance rates to go up as soon as they scan your record for a conviction.

They do seem to discourage tourism with the targeting of Il plates. I don't understand that as it seems that it would hurt their overall economy. I know folks that will avoid WI due to the LEO's.

Yeah fucker was picking on me. Kicked it up to match the speed of the cars in the passing lane. If I was in fact going faster than everybody, it was only by 5 mph if that. How much should I expect to shell out for a lawyer and the fine?

Get ready to bend over for lawyer fees and fines. You will get it reduced or threw out if you pay up.

As I stated earlier in this thread. I paid an attorney $75 and he had it changed to a parking ticket. I did not need to appear. However, the fine was increased by $125.

If you pay that speeding ticket, you will have a conviction on your IL record. There are points assigned, but you don't lose your DL based on points. You lose it if you have 3 moving violation convictions in a year. There is NO supervision in WI. Only convictions.

A parking ticket is not a moving violation. It depends on how much keeping a mover off your record is worth it to you.

Does that make sense?

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

Under 25 and with a violation like that? It will definitely be cheaper to pay a lawyer and an increased fine. Totally know what you're saying.

Had a ticket for a doing 106 in a 55 zone. It was a class A misdemeanor. Got away with supervision thanks to Jrock's lawyer.

Fees and fines were a bitch, but glad it didn't show up on my record as I was under 25.

Good thing you didnt get caught doing 25 over. Its automatically 30 days suspension. Yeah get a lawyer. You may get it changed to defective speedometer (no points) but same fine + court costs. Shouldnt hit your insirance that way.

Wouldnt be a problem if there wasnt a number of IL plates treating the interstates in WI as their own personal autobahn. During the summer its nearly every time I'm in I90/39 between Madison and the state line theres always a vehicle with IL plates popping triple digits. From sports cars to SUV's. Not to mention that every car I ever seen using the right shoulder to pass cars had IL plates.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

I'm not saying that doesn't happen. It's not only Il drivers that speed up there let me tell you. Last time I got passed up when I was doing 75 mph by a WI driver pulling a large boat. He didn't take long to pass me. Had to be doing 10-15 mph faster than what I was doing. I was traveling at the speed of the WI drivers that I was on the road with.

I've also been subjected to WI justice. Coming back from a snowmobiling trip. 5 vehicles on the road. I'm at the tail end of the 5 car pack. All in the right lane. Traveling that way for a good 10 miles or so. All of us going about 10 miles over the limit. I'm the only one with Il plates. I'm the one that they pulled over and ticketed. I try to avoid it these days but will still pass through when needed.

No its not just IL drivers that speed. On vehicles that blast by me at 100+ its mainly IL plates doing it. Usually higher end stuff no less. Although I have had a semi truck blast by me like I was sitting still while cruising along at 75. Damn owner operators.

Simplest solution is to keep it in check in WI when you are driving up here. Tickets are pricey for everyone except ones you get in some small towns who write them as municipality tickets where the state doesnt get a cut(ie in City of Beloit 15 over is $187, in Town of Beloit its $75).

When I'm driving in IL I keep it down to resonable levels. WI drivers in IL get hassled just as bad as IL drivers in WI.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

No they don't, Wisconsin is not a compact state which means they have to post a cash bond at the time of the ticket. Most departments don't allow officers accept fine payment on the street so they have follow the officer to the police station to pay their fine. It is very time consuming.
