Speeding cameras are a scam ...

I knew it:

Hopefully this is a prelude to get rid of all of them.

I'm not surprised...in the Phoenix area they took apart the system, people just refused to pay the tickets, because the ticket was not issued by the state but rather the company operating the system. Some lawyer said that wasn't legal and took it to court, and the state took the camera's down.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

I think either Naperville or Aurora turned off their cameras, said it didn't generate enough revenue to justify the cost of puting them in.

... But I thought it was all in the name of "safety"???

It was Naperville that turned off the cameras citing maintenance cost higher than income. Aurora still has the cameras on.

Which is exactly why I haven't paid 3 of 'em going back 5 or so years. XYZ Speed Camera, Inc(or whoever the fuck they are) can kiss my dick if they think they're getting a dime.

On the news a few weeks ago there was a small talk about the cameras coming down because people were slamming on their brakes in order to not get a ticket which was causing accidents and a whole of other BS related to that. So they are going to be taking them down. Which is true, instead of people being used to going thru yellow/red lights "calmly", people are worrying too much about getting a ticket so their actions become a panicking action causing hell on Chicago streets

I work in south city and I see a lot not going off. I went through a light one time and it was going from red to yellow. I didn't see the flash go off and still no ticket.

Houston voted them out last year.

I've read several articles ont his topic lately, and they are generally seen as a big fat scam. I believe the ruling I read said that there was no reasonable means for people to fight these tickets, and that the companies played with the timing of the lights to increase revenues because they get a portion of the ticket cost, and the whole thing was just unfair to the public.

Now that you mention it, I remember seeing something like this one Fox News(?) a couple years ago. They went to various intersections around the city and timed how long it took yellow to go red. The times varied wildly depending on location and were all less than state/national average.

I remember that problem before the redlight cameras going up. You have a 10milisecond yellow. But you have black people with beater cars going through redlights anyway in the hood.

This messes me up driving to the suburbs daily. In my neighborhood the yellow light is <2 seconds and there are redlight cameras that go off almost every single light change. I cross out of the city and the yellow lights seem to be lit up for >5 seconds. I end up slamming my brakes and then sitting at a yellow light for what seems like 2 minutes.

Yeah, I notice that too. In the suburbs the lights will stay yellow for a longer period of time. In the city, it likes to change almost instantly. Pretty trickey if you ask me. Also the no right turn cameras mess me up. Nowadays, I heard if you just don't pay the ticket and also contest it, the whole mess will go away.
