need advice for no m class ticket!

I got pulled over the other day by a state trooper for no license plate light. I was alone and I only have my permit, luckily I didn't get towed, the officer told me later that he honestly looks for any reason to pull sport bikes over because a third of the time they don't have licenses.he let me call my dad and have him escort me home (luckily he answered). The officer told me to get my m class license and the judge might go easier on me, but he also took my license, so a few questions:
1, can I get my m class if I'm on a ticket?
2, what do they check on the bike when you go to take the test?
3, any required apperal?
4, how screwed am I as far as court goes?

1. Not sure, but I would think you can.
2. The bike has to be legal. They usually check the turn signals and brake lights. I'd make sure your bike is legal.
3. Eyewear and you should wear pants, boots and long sleeves at a minimum. Don't show up dressed like a dumbass.
4. I would assume you get busted on the lack of 'M' endorsement. Highly doubt you get out of it without a lawyer.

Did the trooper write you for the no license plate light? If not then he doesn't have PC to stop you and your no m class ticket will be dismissed.

Second option is to go to court and hope trooper doesn't show up.

Go get your M test done and get a lawyer.

I have been down this exact same road as I rode for YEARS without an M Class and crashed, Cops handed me a ticket as they loaded me into the Ambo - Sucked.

I asked for an extension on my court date and sited "out of town work" and was granted it - I went and took the test on my old pig of a TLR 1000 (while on the ticket) and worse full gear - Passed, showed up in court with my M Class and the ticket was dropped

depending on your court date and your scheduled, you may be able to take an msf class as a walk in. going through the class may also help your case. showing a level of responcibility as a rider and lawful citizen. another option

Tried taking the test yesterday. Didn't work out, lol. Ran into a guy that said there's a course out in Montgomery but didn't have eight time to get more info because the light changed. Any one know where I can rent a small bike for reasonable price? Might have to go with the 100$ scooter rental on craigslist, all I can seem to find at the moment.

I would totally take the class but court Is on the 27th and I need the license before then .
Also I looked up the scooteron craigslist and all I found was the one for 100. Think I'm just gonna go for that. Probably gonna cost me allot more if I don't.

Taking the class on a scooter (under 160 cc) won't work for M class. That will only get you an L class, good for bikes under 160cc.

Get your bike to a mechanic, pay to have the wiring fixed, go take the test, and lawyer up.

Getting pinched isn't cheap, It's much cheaper to do it right from the beginning.

Craig

I wouldn't worry so much about the lawyer as getting the M class done. Don't know where you are but the DMV on 87th does M testing and they're usually pretty clear.

Get M class done and go to court and pay your fine. With the license done the judge may even drop the whole thing. Though I would try to get your bike fixed and ride it there.
No gear needed for the test (eye protection?). This is Illinois, there's no helmet law here.

The scooter is a 170cc scooter, the guy said it weighs like 100 pounds, should be able to pass on that (I hope, lol).

He never answered.

But he is right you need 2 tickets a pc ticket and then whatever other tickets are given. From what I've seen in all the times I've been to court down at the Daley Center is the state is usually willing to drop one charge for a plea on the other. Since both of your tickets are compliance violations, my advice to you would be to bring the receipt for the license light to court to show you're in compliance with the first ticket and it should be dismissed. The second one if you are able to get an endorsement on your license may also be dismissed but it's going to be a bit harder. But I've seen people make very good efforts and a lenient judge throws it out because they actually tried. i.e. if you can prove you've scheduled a time where you are going to take the test it can only help.

Go dressed nicely and speak up too. It's annoying when people mumble and show up in pj's. Getting a lawyer is going to be pricey for something this small and either way you're probably going to get stuck with court costs.

You wanna see my itinerary?

No you asked the office why he pulled you over. Then if he say plate light you ask why he didn't wrote a ticket... Judge will dismiss the case. The office violated your civil rights.

I did get a license plate light ticket too. I was planning on installing the lights myself, should I just bring in a receipt for the purchase of the lights? Don't want to spend the money to have them installed.

Haha, I had to remake a name for this forum, for some reason its not letting me post on the 13o2 name.

Anyways, I passed the test, got the license, I'll update you guys after court and let you know what happens.

Good idea. Fix the light, get the m class and go to court. I don't see the need for an attorney. Just dress night and be polite.

Yes bring the receipts for the lights and if you can get a pic of them working that will help too. There's no where it says a professional has to fix it. It's a compliance ticket and now that you are in compliance should get tossed. Get the endorsement for your license and show that you have taken that step ahead of time. Being proactive helps in all of this and the judge can adjust the sentence/fine accordingly. Odd's are at a minimum you'll have to pay court fees but you may get out with supervision or something of the nature for the other.

It's not a biggie in the long run. Just remember if you dress nicely and speak up along with having all your docs out and ready (not folded in your wallet) it will put a favorable image in front of the judge who has to deal with people mumbling, wearing pj's and not having any docs period. Good luck.

so how much time and effort did you waste by not having an M-class and license plate to begin with?

By my Count you wasted the time to have to have your daddy escort you home, go to a bmv, fail a test, the money and time to rent a scooter and go re-take the test, and to show up in court.

I guess you have more free time on your hands than I do to consider that 'not much'

You can be as pissed off at me as you want for sounding like a prick, doesn't hurt Me. But maybe you should think about what i actually said. Shit doesn't have to be so difficult for you.

Have fun. Take pics.
