Pokey got a parking Ticket!

I just got a notice in the mail from Streamwood police about Pokey (my race/track bike) getting a parking ticket earlier this month. I'm not even sure where streamwood is, but Pokey's old license plate number was listed. However, the vehicle description didn't match (black suzuki..Pokey has always been some shade of red). There was also no citation listed for expired plates, which would have happenned since I didn't register my track bike this year. Anybody had this happen? The plates are still in the garage, so they weren't stolen.

I'm thinking a letter detailing the obvious error might work. I'd take pictures but they'd just get pissed cause it's a race bike.

Anyways, what the hell kind of ticket is "parked left wheel to curb" Which wheel is the left one??

I'd ask them that

and I doubt they'd be pissed about a track bike... one more hooligan off the streets

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't...

A car parked left wheel to curb means that the car was parked facing oncoming traffic on the wrong side of road. I have gotten a ticket like this when I parked my car infront of my house facing the wrong way. The drive side door was next to the curb, instead of next to the street as usual.

Grover,
Call them up and explain to them the situation. Believe it or not common sense does prevail (for the most part!) in the Law Enforcement field. I know I'm a newbie to this site but believe me I know what I'm talking about. There are alot of those guys/ girls in Law Enforcement who also love to ride and do have a soft spot for good decent riders, however there happen to be a few that ruin it for everybody and give riders a bad name (you know who you are). Anyways please post the outcome of your ticket on this site. I happen to work very close to this P.D. and if it doesn't get taken care of I can steer you in the right direction on who to talk to.

I had this happen on a car plate I had given up.
I called the city of chicago and told them I didn't own the plates, and they siad I had to prove it to them. I called the Secretary of State, and two weeks later, received a letter that the plates had expired 3 years previously. I sent it to the City, an they said, too bad, you did not respond in time, so you are responsible for the fine.

I told them I would sue them if they touched any of my vehilces.

Just last year I got a notice that they were going to destroy the car with those plates, I told them to go ahead. It wan't mine.

Grover, c'mon man, we know your guilty! Pay the taxes due! You would think the local tax collectors would make a mistake? These guys are highly educated, most have finished grade school, not all but most! You should know better than parking Pookey with the left wheel to the curb, pay your taxes and life will be good, again......

I heard once that New York City's parking ticket computer, back in the early 1970's, was issuing parking tickets effectively at random. The vehicle descriptions didn't even match, tickets were being issued against crushed cars, etc. It got so bad, I hear that some of the neighboring states threatened to pull reciprocity (i.e., would refuse to collect NY parking tickets from their residents). They eventually fixed the problem.

Anyway, they probably got the plate number wrong, and I'd hope that you could sort this out without much hassle. Don't bring up the unregistered-race-bike angle, though: some places are really stringent about not allowing unregistered vehicles on private property, and if you get a major J-O for a hearing officer, you could be getting a visit from your local Code Enforcement officer.

And, Rick: you joke about tax collectors, but do you know who handles parking tickets in the City?

No, not really. I still don't even know where the city is. It's pretty far to be parking on a Tuesday and she thought it was odd that the parking ticket was given without a citation for expired plates (I didn't renew the plates). They didn't reissue the plates yet, so the officer must have put the wrong number down.

Grover, if you get another one, send me a message and I will help you out. More than likely, there were no plates on the vehicle and using the VIN, the information still comes back to you (new owners have never updated SOS info). PM me if you want and i can look into it.

Vehicle is still mine. It was specifically tracked to me using the license plate number that used to be on the plate. The plate wasn't stolen since I found it in my garage. The vehicle description didn't match and I didn't head down there during that time. I live 3 blocks from the Round Lake police station. I couldn't ride that bike the 1/4 mile to the gas station without getting pulled over for no lights, plates, signals, registration, etc. Most logical source of error was a transposed number or the officer read a letter wrong. She kept trying to use an L instead of C, that must be the most common error. Anyways, I don't really mind since it was cleared up with just a phone call.
