Question: Speeding Ticket and License

Hi,

I got a speeding ticket somtimes last month and they took away my license. I paid up the fee but so far nothing happens (check still hasn't been cleared yet). How long does it take for getting my license back. I planned to call the 3rd Muncipial District (Rolling Meadows) to inquire. Does anyone have their number? The wait time is rediculous.

Thanks.

Most tickets i've gotten they just give me the ticket and let me keep the license. How fast were you going?

You might want to give the court's clerk office a call to inquire.

the license is taken as bond, unless you have a bond card. expect to recieve it back in the mail within 30 days if you sent your check in promptly.

Hopefully they didn't lose the license. They did that to my wife; She was able to get the county that was holding the lices to state that they had lost the license so she didn't have to pay another $10 to get a new one printed at the DMV.

Yep!! I just called the Clerk's office in Rolling Meadows. They won't process my ticket until June 16 (a whole month after I get the ticket) even though I paid up like a sucker right after i got it. Anyway, the lady said an option is to go directly and request my license back and they will look for my check (???). Did anyone have any success trying this before? This is not fair, they want your money asap, but their efficency is dirt. Thanks

6-7 years ago I got a ticket in Schaumburg, went to the police station to pay it, and got my license back right away. I was heading to Ireland the next week.

As an alternative, you can go get a state ID and just wait.

The best thing to do is appear in court. If the officer is not present in court, you can plead not guilty. No officer, no witness, you get off.

If the officer is there it's a good idea to request court supervision. If you don't get a ticket within 6 months that ticket doesn't go on your record. To be elgible for supervision you have to attend drivers school. If you took drivers school or got a ticket with the last year you are inelgible.

If you get court supervision the ticket will stay off your record, if you just pay the ticket it automatically goes on your record. 3 tickets on your record in a year and your license gets revoked. Any tickets on your record and your insurance will more than likely go up.

In the future hire a lawyer. It may cost you 150 or 200 for a lawyer but in the long run you are better off to keep it off your record.

I never appear in court without a lawyer by my side. The Legal system will fuck you in the ass.

You make the choice.

hey their not so bad lol... i know in my area if you get one depending on the type of driving you were doing, they offer, lol well they give you a paper you fill out and send the money there and then go to the CLC college of lake county where they have 2 sites to go too. in traffic school, when you finish the 4 or 8 hour class depending on your speed it doenst show up for the insurances. so if you get a ticket here and its 75 then you pay 20 more and go to the school... not bad if you dont even want to go to court.

The last ticket I got in '03 they didnt take my license, just gave me the papers to mail in. Showed up in court, requested supervision, paid the $$ (which is really what they're after), got 3 months supervision, and haven't thought about it since.

This was in my camaro, and I really wasn't going that fast (under 20 over). Maybe the whole taking license thing is at the officer discretion.

The paperwork you mailed in, did it specify you'l get superivison?

I think the license taking is choice of officer cuz I know someone got busted doing 40 over and kept their license

it is the choice of the officer but whats bad about that is like you guys know of it and if you knew that officer those people would expect the same and he might not be so nice next time.

i can see giving someone a warning depending on the speed. but normally 20 mph over can be considered reckless...

Last year I got a ticket in my work truck and the cop didnt show. Dismissed right? No, they recalled the case a month later and the cop didnt remember anything about the ticket/bs claim I cut him off by turning in front of him (yeah ok, in front of a cop, right?) They still convicted me and gave me like a $125 fine. The court is getting ridiculous. But back on topic, I always wait till like the last day or so to pay (keep my money as long as possible, lol) and pay in person to get the license immediately.

Jeff

Did they suspend your license or just take it?

PS I'm Jon's friend with the 250, sorry to hear about the license thing...it sucks doesn't it? (I just got mine back.)
