Charges Dropped!!!!!

So i got nailed for 65 in a 35 in Addison a month ago on my way to Strats. The cop was a total dick and gave me the ticket with no way of proving my speed. So today was my court date. For anyone that hasn't been to Addison court house, they totally try and strong-arm you into pleading gulity. Beginning of the session the judge said "If your going to plea not-guilty, its gonna be a 2-3 hour wait till I hear your case" Which was fine for me, i was gonna fight it to the death. Then after all the other cases are heard, they took a 30 min recess so they can bulid there case against you. during that time the lawyer for addison pulled me aside and offered me a $100 fine with court supervision. and then said that if i didn't take the deal its up to the judge, and could go as high as $500. So i told him nope, i want a trail. then he said, "the officer is right in this other room here, and he is gonna tell his side of the story, and he is a SGT. so its gonna be hard to have a case against that" I told him again "I want a trial" He said its gonna be another 30mins, and if i change my mind to come talk to him. not less than 15 mins after i sat down, he came back up to me and said, "the officer isn't here, so we are just gonna dismiss your case"

WOO HOO for me, i still had to miss half day of work and then sit there for 2 hours, but o well

i feel bad for all the people who paid there fines and there officers didn't show up to court, cause there was only one officer there. fuck them.. at least i'm free and clear.

Awesome story, it seems worth it to fight it. That would also explain why they were trying so hard to get you to plea. Looks like they have been watching too much World Series Poker, good thing you called their bluff.

Nice job, and good to know. You have some balls sticking to your guns, I might have took the deal. haha

I had a similiar situation where a state trooper stopped me going 60 in a 30. He claims I was going 60 because he had to drive 60 to catch me which made no sense and I argued it with him. He still gave me the ticket anyway and I chose to go to court. I went before the judge, pleaded not guilty, and I sat while they did all the other cases. At that point they called me back up, the trooper had not shown up, so it was dismissed. The judge just told me, you are so lucky.

My lawyer cracked me up one time. He always asks me if I see the cop that pulled me over and unfortunately for me they are almost always there. But this one time I didn't see the cop but I wasn't sure. So I say "why don't we just ask the DA?". He starts laughing his ass off and says "You want to ask that lying piece of shit?". I almost pissed myself.

Lucky you. MoparBoyy. I did the same thing years ago and ended up going to court 3 times within 4 months, charges dismissed but paid about $80 in court fees. To top it of, I wasn't even speeding (the old dude gave 3 of us tickets).

congrats on getting the dismissal!!

it is always smart to go to court and try and fight the ticket.
I know it is tough for some to take the day off of work for it and can be a hassle but in the long run it is worth it.
more than 60% of the time the cop will not show up.... instant dismisal.
the other times, you can plead out with supervision and a lesser fine. this will keep it off your record and keep your insurance rates from going up.
