Improper Overtaking??

I got a ticket on my bike this morning for "Improper Overtaking." Apparently, you can only pass one car at a time. I didn't know that. Does anyone know if this is true??

Damn, never heard that before. Guess I know now. So do you have to pass a car, get back in your lane, and then go out and pass again....

I passed a farm tractor going about 20 in a 50, with about ten cars behind it.

I'm starting to think so, I couldn't really tell what any of the cars looked like at 110 when I was going by. Good thing she didn't clock me!!

110 on an '85 ninja... you sure you don't mean 75 mph?

Seriously though, that sucks cock, especially considering what you were passing and how; but thanks for informing the CLSB community of this law as I was unaware.

Hmmm interesting....because I pass multiple cars all the time. I would go to court, if you haven't had a tickets in the last year....you can get supervision. Don't plead not guilty....ignorance is no excuse

It is illegal to pass multiple vehicles on a two-lane road. Notice though that we hardly ever hear of tickets for impeding traffic.

Not only is that illegal, it's very stupid.

For example, imagine if the 5th car back in that line of 10 decided to turn left onto a cross street while you were passing from that far behind? You're toast. What if another car pulls out to pass, I doubt they will be looking for a fast approaching bike behind them in the oncoming lane either.

I thought about passing 3-4 cars at once in a similiar scenario and a video that I saw previousl flashed through my head at that moment, and I decided against it. A few seconds later one of the cars turn left with little warning on a side street.

Seems kinda crazy for country driving. What if the farmers escorting the tractor. Then your stuck. I allways seem to be in the losing end of that scenerio and being the last to pull out because I am first behind the slow person.

I think once you have got back in line you have to be there for a certain time/distance before you can pull back out. Otherwise it is Illegal lane usage.

Yeah, it especially blows because I was In a rural area in southern Illinois. I've been down here 3 years and only been pulled over twice. Up in chicago, I'm usually pulled over on a monthly basis.

On a side note, I've topped it out at ~133, takes forever to get through 6th gear though. Pulls pretty easily through the end of 5th, but struggles after that. Gets up to 110 pretty easily though.

Don't get close to any car and leave space so you can get from behind them before everyone else does.

Damn, if 10 is a record, that's one I don't think I'll try to break. I think I did 3 once, and I didn't like doing that.
