Headlight Out on the Car

Is having a headlight out on a car a moving violation like a speeding ticket?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

lol I'll call you in 15 minutes. I got a ticket for a headlight out and the ticket says if I pay the fine regular price fine it goes on my record. There is an option for traffic school for a higher fee.

Wanted to see if a headlight ticket is treated the same as something like a speeding ticket.

take it to court, play dumb and say you didnt know it was out but you took it to the dealer to have them fix it. Judge may feel pity and no ticket.

I had a ticket just like that actually and the judge was pissed that the cop even gave me the ticket. He asked if it was fixed and I said yes and it was thrown out. Judge was like there's a reason why there are warning tickets for this. I just laughed

Headlight ticket is normally $75.00 (same fine) but not considered a moving violation, it is an equipment violation that falls under Chapter 12 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes. "Some" judges - depending on what county/city you received it in, more than likely will ask if you fixed it and then fine you $55.00 - 75.00 and place you on 90 days supervision. No tickets in 90 days and the ticket will be dropped from the record.

It also depends on whether you were written under the State law or under a local ordinance of the municipality. Seeing that you have those two options makes me think you were either written by the State Police or under a local ordinance. If you were written under 625 ILCS 5/12-201(B), then you were written under the State statute. If it states a different group of numbers then it is local and you will fall under a "home rule" municipality where you will actually have more options but more than likely pay a higher fine or something similar.

What do the internet and Channel 11 have in common? They are both a window to the world; put it out there and do not be surprised who will see it.

+1 to that.... they normally will give warning tix for this, unless you had several other violations along with it. Most judges will toss this out of court if you prove that you fixed it promptly (not the day before court!! )

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll take it to court. I fixed the light last night, so I'm all set.
