Photo Ticket on Dan Ryan West bound @ 87th

So I got some certified mail the other day, and wasn't sure what it was. I just got the chance to get the mail yesterday. And it was one of those Photo enforced tickets...had a pic of my car, license plate, and me in the driver seat.

Has anyone gotten one of these? I know it's a minimum $375 fine. They got me going 61 in a 45 on March 29.

I have to appear in court on May 31st...do I need a lawyer? This is my first offense...haven't gotten a ticket in over a year or two.

Does anyone have any suggestions...or experience with this?

go to court, plead guilty and ask for supervision, if you haven't had a ticket in a couple years on your record.

yea I'll plead guilty and ask for supervision..but I'm afraid of getting my license suspended cause it's 16mph over in a construction zone. I'm really debating on bringing a lawyer.

I'm just not sure how they are handling these tickets. (Because of the construction zone stuff)

Doesnt matter. If he is the owner of the car he is still getting a ticket.

My advice would be to get a lawyer just in case, even though you probably wont need one since this is your first offense and you havent gotten a ticket in over a year or 2.

Dam, that sucks! They shouldn't be allowed to issue speeding tickets this way.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I've always found that talking to the D.A. before court is easier... Tell him it's your first offense since xx/xx/xxxx and you would like to see what you can work out.

Prepaid Legal rocks... I had it before but stopped because I'm poor... I should start it again.

I've had prepaid legal for 6 years now. 26 bucks a month. They have never let me down. And trust me, I have had tons of tickets in many different states. If it is an infraction you do not have to appear in court. The lawyer from that area where you received the ticket appears for you, there is no lawyer fee, you pay the fine, I have gotten court supervision and/or driving school every single time and have never appeared in court or missed work for a speeding or traffic ticket.

Bend the plate up so they cannot see it next time.

Or take a wet ball of clay and throw it over two or three numbers so they cannot get them. If you get pulled over blame it on kids these days.

Get the license plate cover, with a flip of a switch, it blurs everything out. Just ride with it blurred on the highway, no iPass or tickets

But you were breaking the law.

They warn you all over the place in construction zones not to speed.

You got caught now your recourse is fight it in court. That is the way the system works.

Where were you when thee "ticket" was issued? So we all know the location. And why did you open certified mail that you were not expecting Rule of thumb, unexpected registered or certified mail = bad news. I never accept it...if left in my mail...in big bright red lettering I write...undeliverable and drop back in the mail, or if you have to sign for the mail...refuse to sign for it.Let them send someone to serve you....even then I never identify my self to strangers...it would have to be a law officier asking to identify myself. I'm not sure in Illinois, but in Arizona the state contracted out a private firm to do photo radar tickets, which was had kind of legal implications, people who ignored the photo tickets, got away with it...because the firm hired by the state would lose any profit they would make send out someone to serve the summons.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

The ticket was issued westbound on 90/94 right before 87th street. But the van moves around so their really is no telling where they go.

Yes it's true there are signs posted everywhere...but you really don't realize your speeding on the ryan when it openes up (your pretty much happy that it's moving). It's not like I was going 80...driving 61mph doesn't seem fast when your in the car but it is a posted 45.

As far as the certified mail...this was my first piece of certified mail...now I know!

I'll update you guys after court on May 31st.

And yes i did break the law, and will be paying the fine...
