87 in a 65 out of state.

Hey guys I got tagged last weekend at 87 in a 65 when I was trying to get to my hotel on time south east of Pittsburgh, PA. I came around the corner at night which was dumb I usually stop excessively speeding after dusk as I can't watch as well as during the day and when I saw him sitting I grabbed brake but it wasn't enough. Glad I wasn't tagged at 112+ like I was doing... Anyhow I was real nice and respectful and he said he rounded it down to 80 in a 65 for me. Since it is out of state I have to get it paid within 10 days else my license will be suspended. Should I just go ahead and pony up and deal with it on my record or what? I'm not going to PA to fight this.

You could try to call the prosecuter and see if you can get a phone interview (they do this in WI) and try to get them to reduce the speed or the fine.

But they might require to have a lawyer send a letter to set up the phone interview. That's what I had to do for WI, but since I worked for a law firm I just wrote the letter and had an attorney sign it. They reduced the speed from 17 over to 7 so it didn't look so bad.

If you ain't with us, then it's just bad news.

Can't a local lawyer represent you in court so you don't have to go?

Call the local commerce and ask for a local lawyer that deals with traffic tickets. Then call the lawyer and he will tell you send him money for his time and then will send you the papers to sign along with the fine cost to send back. Done.. Been there before

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

I would check the PA laws and find out a little more, but basically yes just pay it. It may never even show up on your record in IL.
In TX you can plead Nolo Coltendre and just pay it and be done with it. It's a little more positive looking than pleading guilty and paying. See what your options are and just choose the least.
15 over isn't bad; I'd just pay with it; anything else is just making mountains out of molehills.

Unless you have "someone special" in PA and you want another excuse to visit....then I'd consider fighting it

I got taged for 94 in a 65 out of state and my lawyer was able to get it resolved over the phone. Got it down to a defective speedometer. Nothing on my record. My lawyer rocks!!

I many states dont share moving violations with other states. there is no "central" DMV. iowa, indiana and wis share with IL. PA prolly does not. the ticket would never make it on your record here in IL.

best bet is to get a local lawyer and have him fix it. he can rep ya without you being there.

More and more often, there is "reciprocity" from state to state. Rather than solicit advice here, I'd check with an attorney in Pennsylvania, who would actually KNOW the local laws.

Of course, if you need counsel in Illinois... I've got a guy for you.

You can add TN to that list.

Hint - don't blast past truckers on the interstate at avg speeds of 110/120 MPH for too long (like the whole way between Asheville NC and Knoxville TN )

They talk to each other about you on the CB and the state troopers listen in and find out about you.

At least he only got me at 77 in a 55 at that point. A guy on a bike going the other way waved to me to slow down, but at that point I THOUGHT I WAS going slow.

Trooper was a nice guy, but he said he had been waiting for me.

Get a local lawyer to represent you. Since it is an infraction you do not need to appear in court. Hire the lawyer and play the game. Keep the ticket off your record. It will be worth it in the long run.
