Wow, Ogle County... $$$

A friend got a minor ticket by riding without M class on his license while riding his bike. He is a good rider, took the 3 day class, had insurance and well geared. Went to court and has to pay $75.00 plus court costs totaling $240.00!!!!!

$240.00! He said they were rolling out $240.00 fine/court costs like it was going out of style. Behave yourselves in Ogle County.

This is not just an Ogle County issue, this is the same for DuPage and certain courts in Cook as well. They have instituted a fine structure to get back monies spent on all aspects of the court system; Judge, Clerk(s), State's Attorney(s), etc... Plus, if you use a credit card you must pay the respective fee based on the amount of your original fine.

Furthermore, individual departments are starting to charge those individuals who they arrest for traffic and criminal violations as well. Typical No Drivers License - Drunk Driving (DUI) arrest in our area will cost the offender:
$500.00 Administrative Tow Fee
$25.00 Departmental Processing Fee
$150.00 Tow Fee since there is a 24 hour hold on DUI vehicles, and the usual
$100 - $300 Bond.
You are literally at $1k before your court date.

Let me get this straight, we was riding a motorcycle but doesn't have an M-class license? $240 is getting off light, they could have hauled him off to jail and impounded the bike.

Think of it as a $240 reminder to get legal with the bike.

True that. I was more shocked with the folks doing 8 over the speed limit paying $240.00 LOL. He definitely got off easy considering he did not get the bike impounded. Cop said he was doing everything right (had license, registration, permit, insurance, eye protection +) and, because of that, let him go on riding.
