Roselle's Red Light Cameras

Ok, Roselle is jumping on the Red Light Camera Bandwagon...

The Village Board approved it Monday.

Red Speed Illinois is going to bve the vendor company for the cameras. 2 cameras are schedule to be put at Lake St/Gary Ave and Roselle Rd/Elgin O'Hare Expressway.

I found out, and some people have asked how this works before, the cameras capture the images, the company views the video's and sends the video's of the violations back to the department where a police officer is required to view the videos and then signs the citations if there is a violation. With the officer signing these tickets, THERE IS NO DISCRETION. They are told if it techincally is a violation, then it's a violation. (I think this is unfair to require an officer to sign a citation that he/she would not even have pulled someone over for to begin with but I won't go into it and what our personal thoughts are does not matter to department anyway.)

Just letting you all know about this because I want to give a heads up knowing how everyone feels about them.

Also, although I am not condoning it....

No thread jack intended - I just wanted to keep it under one thread.

In Wood Dale, the intersection of Thorndale and Wood Dale will have one shortly as well. And if the county likes what it sees at this intersection, there will be one installed at Route 83 and OakMeadows Drive (formally Third Ave - first light north of the 290). Although this intersection falls under two jurisdictions, the county will be handling the citations.

A few queries in the Ipass database will results in more revenue than you can shake a stick at. The time deltas are known from one point to another. Anything 'quicker' than that time is speeding.

Thats when you either start carrying two Ipasses or someone comes up with a device which reads and cycles groups of codes.

This product will work, depending on the camera system it may not work.

Back in the DC/MD/VA area, there are tons of red light cameras. They have a speeding camera in downtown DC.

Once our wonderful state gets a taste of the revunue, these will become revenue generators, and they will be ALL over the place. When you stop at a light, and someone blows it and you see that lil flash, just laugh your ass off, cause it could be you.

Basically, everyone will eventually get one of those tickets.

Even the cash lanes have Ipass transponder receivers, so they've got ya anyway.

If playing the game of I-pass at one booth & cash at the next you need to pull your transponder off the window & put it someplace inactive (like center console)

Edit to add: Anybody know if the cameras in Lombard are used in issuing citations? They're at many intersections along Highland & Main St.

The photoblocker stuff won't work for tollways in case anyone didn't know already. They use (I think this is right) uv light that is unaffected by the photoblocker.
