got a ticket on the scooter

i didn't think it was possible but i got pulled over on the Zuma on my way to work this morning. Des Plaines cops must have nothing better to do. I was turning right from Oakton onto Manheim road, all traffic was stopped for the red light, there was enough room on the right hand side to get by the car that was stopped in front of me so that i could make the legal right turn on red. 3-4 miles later, there is blue and reds in my rear view. when he finally was behind me i was doing 5 under the speed limit and cars where flying past me like i was standing still! i had on leather jacket and helmet even. the cop was a complete a-hole to me asking how long i have had a M class license, how long i have been riding motorcycles, and other useless comments out his mouth. it took everything i had to be nice and calm with him but he refused to give me a warning or anything, he wrote me a ticket for "Improper lane use, splitting lane on curbside"

I just learned how sir! This is my first bike, and I race it on the track winning CCS Amateur races.

That blows. Only you would get a ticket on a moped.

i could see the conversation now.

Cop: "how long have you had a M license"
Mopar: "about 5 years. I ride a ducati"
Cop: "how long have you ridden motorcycles?"
mopar: "I race ccs and podium. check out the plaques I keep them with me at all time. Oh and check out these sweet ducati shoes. I ride a ducati"
Cop: "I ride a Harley"
mopar: "um, did I mention I ride a ducati???"
Cop: "here's your ticket. dick"

I think I saw you this morning on my way to work. like 7:20 at 83 adn thorndale you were stoppped first in line. only reason I even took note was the rider was dressed to ride unlike 99.99% of the other soccter operators I see. does your helmet have some green on the side, black jacket

I cant tell you how many times ive done that kind of turn and how many times Ive had cagers do it to me and come within inches of knocking me over as they squeeze thru the gap to make their turn. ill look over and most of the time i get a pissed off look as though i dont even belong on "their" road..

sucks man i feel for ya.

my sister saw some kid pulled over for apparently speeding on a scoot the other day, id imagine that the cops arent gonna be letting things go anymore now that theyve become so much more prevalent, along with completely new people making dangerous mistakes

I was splitting on the right side at a light yesterday in DP as well. Didn't get pulled over or anything, but now I don't think I should. I passed like 6 cars or something. I rarely split though. Sucks you got a ticket from an A-hole. I don't even know why copy give a shit if bikes are splitting at lights. We don't A/C, every minute sitting in traffic is a minute we are roasting from the sun + engine.

I'm guilty of the same move. I've done it, and have had it done to me, often.

I believe the Ill. road rules state something about 8ft of space. Which means riding two abreast is also illegal.

Did you see the 5 gallons of U-4 fuel i had sitting between my legs? but yeah, black jacket, helmet, and there is a yellow number plate on the left side of my helmet for CCS racing.

I was doing about 35 on 83 at the time so i didnt have a ton of time, just caught the basics of the rider wear, and blue zuma

you running race gas in the scoot, i ran about a gallon of mr-11 thru it a couple years back and it stunk so bad it made me sick. it seemed to not be as fast as it was before the racegas after it was gone.

Yep that's me. I am very conscious of others on the road and I expect the same in return. One time I had to get out and walk up to someone and explain that the tap on the horn meant to move up a tad so 17 people could make the right hand turn. Morons. It's like everybody wants to propagate traffic.

just transporting it, at $16/gallon, I would never waste that kindof money in the scoot.

Actually with the sudden rise in scooter use and the percentage of those riders being first time riders and kids, I bet the cops are dealing with some serious bullshit from scooter people. I'm betting they will start being targeted more often. Hence his questions of How long have you been riding etc.

I bet the last guy hopped the curb and got away from him, so he was pissed off.

you should have been written for improper overtaking on the right... not improper lane use. you can pass on the right when there is enought room (625 ILCS 5/11‑704)
Sec. 11‑704. When overtaking on the right is permitted.
(b) The driver of a 2 wheeled vehicle may not pass upon the right of any other vehicle proceeding in the same direction unless the unobstructed pavement to the right of the vehicle being passed is of a width of not less than 8 feet.

... and you can't cross over the "fog line" and onto a shoulder. since you were written on the wrong statute you may be able to get out of this one but then they may just be able to amend the charge in court. good luck.
