First ticket in 11 years, for how many over?

Thirteen. Thirteen miles an hour. The Wonder Hyundai got a head of steam, and supposedly did 43 in a 30. Considering my good driving record, I should have gotten a pass. But, I didn't. Am I pissed? Not really. It just kills me that I have been given warning tickets for much more over. But, it's $115 for the ticket and driving school. Is school online now? The officer asked to search the vehicle, and I told him not without a warrant. He gave me the whole "what am I hiding, do you have drugs, ect). I just didn't want him serching my car. After 15 minutes on the radio, he let me go without a search. Oh well, after that long of a span, I guess I was due.

Northlake. I just got off a long shift, and wasn't in the mood to have someone rummage through the hooptie.

Ken, good point. On my ticket, it has a spot for a court date, but I have to plea not guilty. How does that work if I don't have a defense yet?

You shouldn't have to submit without probable cause anyway.

The way you look is not.
The way you drive is not.

That's an (attempted) abuse of your civil liberties.

13 over 55 or 65 would be more acceptable than 13 over 30. 30 is likely a residential or densely populated area. But agreed, something about you or the car made the cop suspicious or he was just bored and was hoping to get lucky. Look at at this way, you basically got off with having to pay for a slap on the wrist.

Someone posted a video on here some time ago on how to respond to fishing leo's. Anyone recall the link?

Interesting, he wanted to search your vehicle for speeding? Even when I've been busted for other things they didn't search the car. That's pretty fucked up. I would be most upset about some asshat of an officer wanting to search my car cause I was speeding.

I bet you dollars to donuts if you were driving a 2008 vehicle you wouldn't have been asked that question. Fucking pisses me off the way stupid officers think. Goddamnfuckingshit.

You should have let him search the car. It would have been funny watching him rummage through all that shit you have in there. Like your spare tire. I bet he probably would have found a burger and fries in there too.

Jarod, wanna start with the stocking cap full of holes you use as a shifter cover? Hillbilly.
I got a very good PM. I'm pleading not guilty, I never admitted to going over the limit, don't think I did, and dressing nice, using my execellent driving record and my safety record from the railroad. I'll just leave out the part about the cars I have hit.

There should be a disclaimer for this video that reads, "FOR WHITE PEOPLE ONLY!" Otherwise you will be shot just like the black kid in Oakland recently.

In my experience its best to simply be cool and polite and talk as little as possible. I respect cops and they've respected me in return and yes I'm Black. I've never had my car searched and never been asked but I wouldn't allow them to, its a very easy way for a dirty cop to plant something on you.

I respected him. Hands on the wheel, license and inurance in hand. They have a job to do and I understand that. But unless you have probable cause, you are not going through my car. Also, he saw my grip that has a Union Pacific logo on it. Most people there hare that railroad, so I'm sure that didn't help.

I honestly will never complain about IL traffic court system ever again. After going through the wringer with WI's dirty a$$ system, I'm quite greatful to live in IL. At least the ticket is only $115 plus you get online traffic school which saves your insurance rates. Had this happened in WI your ticket would've have been $500 and you would have to pay it, NO MATTER WHAT! A lawyer in WI would cost you $2,000 and the best they could do is reduce the fine 40% at best but you'd still be hit for 6 points and reckless driving reported to your insurance company.

I wouldn't be upset at all if I were you dude, trust me it could've been far worse. Although I believe your ticket is total crap and I'm completly against speed limits becuase they have nothing to do with safety and its actually more dangerous to enforce "speeding violations" then to not have them at all.

It's all about the money!

I'm honestly not upset about it. $115 isn't going to make or break me. I'm more pissed that out of all the rockin' bikes I have owned over the years, the Wonder Hyundai gets me pinched. Lulz.

I just gotta vent here then I'm done cause I could go on and on about speeding tickets. ANYONE can get pulled over at ANYTIME for a speeding ticket. Speed limits are posted based upon the average speed of a given area then reduce that average by roughly 40% and you get your posted speed limit that NO ONE is going to drive! This guarantees that a cop at anytime in anyplace can write a speeding ticket to whomever he/she wants. Hence you have quotas and profiling.

Its common knowledge that speed limits came about in the 70s to reduce gas consumption because of the oil crisis, at the time. Drive slower and you'll burn less gas, especially with gas hogs of the 1970s. What was realized was the vast amount of money the new traffic laws generated. Traffic laws, specifically speeding, is a BILLION dollar industry that comes out with new products each year. DUI device installed in your car, constant changes in speed limits (no its not your imagination), increased fines particularly on motorcyclists and what's the latest product that's on the books, CELL PHONE laws, just another way to pull you over and snatch more cash.

SOMEONE PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!

There is this thing called physics and some math formula thingies that calculate impact forces and such.... speed is one of the many variables...

Try again, there's something called the Autobahn! If you honestly believe the government uses physics to determine speed limits you're dreaming! You’re confusing accident reenactment with traffic laws. Reckless driving and speeding are two different things and I even support "suggested speed limit" signs that’s safety but again, speed limits in the U.S has NOTHING to do with safety. Sure rail road signs, stop signs, traffic lights, no passing signs, double yellow lines, etc..... those are all legitimate traffic safety signs and devices but speed limits, NOT AT ALL!

Think about it the next time you are driving, try to actually drive the posted speed limit where ever you are and see how long you're able to maintain the 30, 45 or 55mph speed limit. If you don't cause an accident, block traffic or go insane first, I guarantee you can't drive the posted limit. Remember, 5mph over is SPEEDING! Trust me, I got a ticket in Hainesville, IL several years ago for doing 35 in a 30 zone. NO JOKE!
