Title Transfer Help - Buying a Bike in Ohio

I know it's not a traffic ticket question, but it seems related.

I'm trying to set up a deal with an Ebay seller to pick up a Hypermotard that I won. Problem is that the guy I'm talking to is giving me conflicting answers on sales tax and title transfer. They are supposedly a dealer, but I'm a little suspicious.
First he says I have to pay tax there...then I don't.
Then he says that we have to go to the DMV there to transfer the title cause there's no reassignment of title in Ohio.
I'm going to ask him to fax me a copy of the title so I can see it before I drive all the way down there.
Anybody here have any experience with Ohio titles? Thanks.

typically, the sign the title as seller. You take it to DMV here with bill of sale sign it and pay taxes and transfer it.

You can call the Ohio DMV and ask.

He should simply sign the title over to you and that along with a bill of sale should be sufficient to transfer the documents for you.

I bought a bike from PA this way with no problems. I can't imagine Ohio being any different...but I could be wrong.

Something sounds a little "eh" here.

I bought a bike from a dealer in OHIO.

They give you the MSO or Title and a receipt... you take that to the Illinois
DMV and pay tax on the amount on the receipt and get issued an Illinois title.

They may need some kind of "proof of value" paperwork for tax / local purposes.

Y'all need to work it out.

i know this doesn't directly answer your question, but i'm pretty sure that tax on all used motos in Illinois is a flat fee of $25. Because of this, i don't think they even need proof of value...

my last two bikes they asked how much I paid but only charged me the $25 flat rate. This was at a currency exchange
