Redlight cam

I arrive home last night to find a redlight ticket in the mail. Only a half block from the shop. I reveiwed the pics online today. I know this thing is here. Looks like I rolled past the stop line, but did come to full stop. I know these things are reveiwed by humans too. Could it be that since my car is registered at my home, 30 miles away, they figure screw this guy he's an out of towner and they didn't know that I have owned a business in town for 14 years? After seeing the vid, I'm going to ask for a hearing anyway. Anyone fight these things and win?

See if anywhere in the village/council minutes they talk about not ticketing someone WHO DOES STOP even if slightly past the line... And turn that in with your appeal...

In Naperville, various things like this have been in print and are in council minutes... that would be your defense.

Everyone Exaggerates

Next time stop at or before the line.

http://www.sos.state.il.us/publicati...rr_chap09.html

This eight-sided red sign means STOP. You must make a complete stop at the stop line. If there is no stop line, stop before entering the crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, stop before entering the intersection. Yield the right-of-way to pedestrians and approaching traffic. If it is an all-way STOP sign, wait your turn. If the STOP sign is hand-held, stop until an authorized person, such as a school guard or construction zone flagger, signals that it is safe to proceed.

Yeah, people have a problem with that. I learned this in highschool. What's so difficult about stopping behind the line? I remember one board member bitching about it a few months ago...

Not aiming this at you tnat, just saying in general, people are lazy drivers.

This I did. Vid clearly show heavy cross traffic, so stopping is neccasary. Vid clearly show cars past the stop line in ALL lanes of s/b traffic. I have no way of knowing if all vehicles were ticketed tho. Perhaps I did not adhere to the letter of the law, but certainly did adhere to the spirit of the law.

ha! these things suck. i think somewhere in texas, redlight tickets went way down (and so did revenue to the city), but insurance claims for rear-end accidents went way up.

ended up getting rid of the cams in that area

Get a big sign that says FTP, hold it up in front of said cameras and have people repeatedly blow the light.... Think they'd get the picture?

Ride smart... stupid hurts.

Everyone crashes. Some get back on. Some don't. Some can't...

Godspeed 788!!! We miss you!

I got one a while back and Fullerton and California. $90. Bad thing, you got a ticket, good thing, won't go on your record.

There are a couple hockey puck looking things, in line, in the middle of each lane. Those pick up the car. If you think you'll blast it on your bike go to the left or right of the lane. You stand a chance. In the car you're screwed.

I love the smart asses like you guys. like we dont know how to drive a car.

same thing happened to me. there were absolutely no cars or people at this stoplight. I stopped to about 1mph before the line then "slowly" rolled up far enough to where I could see if cars were coming (cuz at the line I couldnt see a thing). i came to a complete stop for a few seconds to look. Not a car in sight and i proceeded to turn right. did I technically break the law? yeah I guess. did 99.9% of cautious drivers like myself do this our whole lives before these redlight cameras? yes. has it in any way caused an accident or any problems? no. would it have made a difference if i stopped to 0mph vs the 1mph i stopped to? no. if a cop was at the light and saw you do this would he pull you over for it? 99.99999% no.

Im riding in a car with my friend driving and I am pleading how this is bs to her. she gives me the same attitude saying "well you didnt stop before the line". so as we're having this discussion she does the EXACT same thing. im like THERE you did the same thing! she's like wow i didnt realize. thats just how you drive. im like yaaaaa.

they have you on a technicality. its bs but it is what it is. just adjust your driving style to it. i say fuck em and not let them make any money off the camera's.

they cant read my bike plate so i drag knee through redlights on the bike

It's cheaper to pay the ticket than try and fight it. When court costs are tacked on, it becomes over $200. Did you drive safely? You wil say 99.9% yes. The city is citing you for breaking .1% of the law. You will not win in Melrose Park. I paid $215 for fighting a 13 mph over the limit speeding ticket. Better off driving 8 mph under through the town. I pull trains super slow through Melrose, and whistle the police station.
