New to Chicago

Hi everyone
I just moved to Chicago from California 2 weeks ago. What are some good roads to ride out here, and when will the weather be warm enough to ride 'em?! Looking forward to riding w/ you guys.

Welcom e to Chicago!
We have a couple of truisms about our weather..."If you don't like the weather in Chicagoland, stick around 15 minutes it will change" also..." Chicago...where the weather of all 4 seasons can happen in a single day"...Warm enough weather to ride is up to you. What's your threshold? They're predicting highs in the low 50's next week with rain. That's a good signal that getting the bikes ready to ride is a good idea because the rain will wash the road salt away...road salt is VERY damaging to motorcycles! Once it's dry and 50, I ride everyday. One thing I would advise...if you're from SoCal and don't have cold weather riding gear that should be something you should invest in...If you have good cold weather gear the riding season is as much as 3 months longer here! Also...good raingear is a must!
As for roads...Don't let the stories about all flat roads in a grid with no curves dishearten you. There are some great places to ride near enough for a one day...The Illinois River valley through Starved Rock and along the east side of the river on IL26...out in the Byron area along the Rock river...up north into Wisconsin for Rustic roads and the alphabet county roads...One ride I'd recommend for you would be the Slimey Crud runs on the first Sunday in May and October. There's alot of great rides and fun things going on for motorcyclists here...Keep an eye on these forums and others and you'll find out about the local scene...also there are various bike nights for all manner of bikes all around the area.

"Dirt is for racing on...Asphalt is for getting there" OR "Flat trackers go in deeper and come out harder... OR (With apologies to General MaCarthur) "Old motorcycle racers never die, they just slip off the groove and fade into the dust!

If you want to anger a conservative, tell him a lie. To anger a liberal all one must do is tell the truth!

I thought exactly the same thing ... seems a step backwards.

Unlike California's natural disasters, our disasters here are man-made. Be prepared LOL

Welcome aboard!

Randal: [to Dante] Would you grow up!
Becky: [to Dante] OK, I'm only telling you this because we're friends, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go ass-to-mouth.
Randal: [chuckling] Ha! I knew it.

I'm not defending either state (they're both beyond fucked), but Wife and I are paying more in taxes here than we did in CA.

Still tryin'....

I'm in the process of buying a house in Berwyn. The bike currently resides in storage somewhere in IL. I miss it like CRAZY! BTW I don't think I unplugged my battery before the movers loaded her on the truck, anyone want to give me a jump in the next couple of weeks? I'll buy ya a beer!

And California was about 3x as expensive as IL is.
