Bears going crazy?

Picking up quite a few big pieces. Looks like they are actually taking advantage of the uncapped season. they just signed Peppers!

What do you think will happen with Olson now? THey already had 2 good TE's and a serviceable 3rd. I wonder why they are going after Manumaleuna unless they plan to offer Olson as trade bate for a WR or DB.

i still don't understand why they don't try to make him a slot reciever. Greg Olson isn't a great blocker, but as a flanker (ala new Tom Waddle) I think he could be pretty good.

Olsen will be traded for a 2nd round pick, or a #1 wr, or a bonafide OL

Preferably would like to see the Bears keep him and maybe send their 3rd round pick + iglesias to Cardinals for Boldin.

too big...too slow for the wide receiver position. i'd rather have bolden or an actual WR out there. no reason keeping him when you can get someone better fitted for the position. martz's 'O' is also a deep threat 'O'. olsen is not a deep threat.

What about a DB? I would rather look for help in the secondary.

It's simple. Mike Martz has no use for a pass catching-only TE. The next tackle Olsen breaks will be his first and he can't block to save his life. Martz utilizes a ton of 5 and 7 step drops and his QB (Cutler) needs even more protection than he would in another offense.

Manumaleuna is basically another OT. He's almost 300lbs.

Look at what Martz did with Vernon Davis. Squat. Martz leaves and Davis explodes. Martz has no need for a TE in his offense if that TE can't block.

We need a Safety, a free safety... the draft is pretty deep with good safeties.

We pretty much have our starters in Peanut and Bowman for CB and Manning at strong safety. Will need to concentrate on the line now, so Cutler isn't murdered.

That pretty much says it all.... we are in a good position though, for what we have to pay Olsen, he brings good value to our team even if we decided not to trade him. Bears are in no rush to trade him... however, Olsen is the one pushing for a trade.

this article cites that he is not looking to be traded.

The Bears need almost every piece in the defensive backfield upgraded, imo. Tillman is about the only DB I'd keep. Though, when is the last time he didn't get banged up? Manning is physically skilled as the funk but his football smarts are (still) sorely lacking.

The Cover 2 cannot do what it's meant to do with bad DBs. It didn't help that their front 4 got no pressure on the QB. It was just bad all around last year.

Cover 2 starts with pressure at the QB, then you can plug in any medicore CB and make him look like a star (i.e. vasher). I'm OK with Tillman, Bowman, Manning, i.e. atogwe, ryan clark. The whole point of the "soft" cover 2 is not needing shut down corners i.e. revis, and that one dude from the raiders.

I'd really like to see some offensive line signings as well as a sweeeeet WR

It makes sense that Olsen is a little leary, especially after Martz was brought on. He's going to have a down year and he wants to get paid soon!

Seeing as the coaching staff has nothing to lose chances are he's going to get traded.

Heh, any defense starts with QB pressure.

The only reason Cover 2 doesn't "need" shutdown corners is the assumption there is a Simeon Rice or Warren Sapp doing bad things to the opposing QB. Let's hope Peppers and Brown can do their thing and Tommie Smith can do anything useful for the first time in 2 years.

I'll still maintain, all of their DBs after Tillman pretty much suck and need to be upgraded.
