If they just followed there own rules about spearing people with helmet to helmet contact everything would be fine. This has been an ongoing debate on ESPN 1000 for the last couple of weeks.

The same thing is happening in the NHL. Hjalmmerson or how ever you spell that Swedes name was suspended for 2 games for a hard hit. Was it malicious? No. Was it dangerous? Debatable but hockey is inherently dangerous.

Are you? Not sure what you mean? Are you saying that rugby is more fair and more respected?

I'm saying that due to less protection gear in rugby the opponing players treat each other with more respect and fairness than in a lot of other sports (like in this case Football)... And its certainly not because they're not hard enough

I think there is something too this. I've got a thick skull, but I'm not going to lead with it without a lid when blasting someone.

You want to discourage spearing and the like? Go back to old school leather helmets.

bollox... ever seen rugby..? Its about beeing more fair and respectful with his opponent... not about finding different ways of hurting other players..

Example: When two players jump to catch a ball.. no one trys to hit the others legs to make him tilt while he's airborne..

Concussions. The NFL is going to have a class action lawsuit on their hands one of these days.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

They are walking an extremely slippery slope with this crap, and one that the majority of players do not favor.

Look at the rule, it punishes not only for illegal hits, BUT FOR LEGAL HITS!!...based on injury. Meaning if you hit someone in a way they deem as malicious or vicious, you can be suspended.

I honestly don't know how you play defense anymore, you can't hit the quarterbacks, you can't hit the receivers and you're not allowed to touch anyone while the ball is in the air! It's craziness...a terrible knee-jerk reaction by the NFL. This is to save face for the league, make it look like they really "care".

...here's one for ya, what if a team is in the playoffs, down by 3 with 2:00 to go, 4th and 9...a player goes over the middle, drops the pass and gets hit to the ground, but now he's *injured*...the refs can throw a flag, penalize and EJECT the player that hit him and the team moves on their merry way.

What a joke.

Tom

Try and imagine high school or peewee football if they instate concussion law, rules and regulations...can you imagine the possible liability tied then to coaches and schools?

Yikes.

I will admit I do love a good hard hit just like anyone else. And I do agree it's entertainment. I'm just playing advocate.
