Bartman ball sold and to be destroyed

CHICAGO, Dec. 19 — The infamous foul ball bobbled out of play by a Chicago Cubs fan during the National League playoffs has been sold for $106,600 to another Cubs fan who plans to destroy it.
''We bought it because we didn't want some Marlins fan putting it on their mantle,'' said Beth Heller, marketing director for Harry Caray's Restaurant in Chicago.

Hate to say it, but the Cubs got whooped, like they usually do. Everyone had their hopes up for them so high that they focused in on Bartman. It's not his fault they lost a 7 game series. People gotta leave that man alone... Geez.

Also, who cares about the stupid ball. They're nuts to pay that kind of money for a ball of twine and then destroy it.......

That is just crazy to buy a ball for $106,000, only to destroy it.

There had to been local charities that could have used the money more than the lucky sap that got the ball.

I agree, it's time to leave Bartman alone.
He did not cause Gonzales to make an error or tell Dusty Baker to overwork Wood and Prior.

I never said anyone was bashing Bartman in this thread. I was referring to his name still being throw around by the media.

The Cubs blew a 3-1 series lead and everyone wants to blame a "jinxed" baseball?? The fact that someone would buy this ball for $106K to destroy it is probably one of the dumbest things I have ever heard.

Sorry, just my opinion.

So how do you destroy a baseball? Soak it in gas and burn it?

the ball isnt what caused their loss, thats silly. it didnt cause it anymore than a grounder rolling through bill buckners legs. but its an obviously pivotal point in the series. After that the team unravelled. just like the '86 red sox. where is bill buckner today?
