Anyone into horse racing?

I am an avid bettor of ponies, and I receive regular updates in the world of Thoughoughbred Racing... Here is one of the more interesting ones.

There was a remarkable $5,889,712 bet into Wednesday's Pick Six at Santa Anita (the total pool was in excess of $7 million) with three winning tickets being purchased in Southern California, Kentucky, and New York. Those fortunate folks will receive over $1.5 Million.

(edit: forgot to mention... for those of you who don't know, that's a $2 bet!)
WOW!!

DAMN that's a lot.

I used to be really into racing. I grew up at the race track. My step-dad was a trainer for many many years. Every summer I'd get up at 4am and clean stalls, feed the horses, pick hooves.... oh yeah... lots of memories of the track.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Nope, but 3 weeks ago I met the largest breeder, buyer and seller and insurer of race horses in the world. He moved about $135,000,000 of ponies last year. One of his nags won the derby 3 years ago and he sired the last 2 winners. Pretty cool stuff.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

My boss loves the ponies. He's got some great stories. The first time I went to OTB with him I was amazed how fast he works. He doesn't miss a race when it comes to making a bet at OTB. It took me a bit to figure out what all the book was trying to say let alone what to do with it once I knew. Fun to watch and be part of the atmosphere, don't know if I'd ever get into it.
