Marlins vs. Expos

Anyone going to see these games?...

Marlins, Expos to play in Chicago
Two games moved to U.S. Cellular Field
By Joe Frisaro /

CHICAGO -- The Marlins will stick around Chicago at least a few extra days.
Because of the threat of Hurricane Ivan, the Marlins will play host to the Expos at U.S. Cellular Field, home of the White Sox, on Monday and Tuesday.

The rest of the five-game series with Montreal, originally scheduled to be played at Pro Player Stadium in Miami, has yet to be decided.

Major League Baseball made its decision Friday afternoon as the Marlins were visiting the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Florida is slated for four games over three days with the Cubs before the series with the Expos begins across town.

Both Monday's and Tuesday's games will start at 1:05 p.m. CT (2:05 ET). All tickets will be general admission and cost $15, with $5 from each ticket going to hurricane relief efforts. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday.

"Major League Baseball would like to thank the three clubs involved in this situation -- the Marlins, Expos and the Chicago White Sox," said Bob DuPuy, MLB President and COO. "Knowing the various logistical challenges faced by each of these clubs in moving these games on such short notice, we are very appreciative of their collective efforts under these extenuating circumstances."

The Marlins had been scheduled to play the Expos Monday-Thursday at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. The teams were initially scheduled to play a doubleheader on Tuesday. As of now, the twinbill will be played either Wednesday or Thursday.

The doubleheader was created because an Aug. 1 game with Montreal was rained out.

The White Sox are off on Monday and will be at Minnesota on Tuesday.

Before deciding on where to play games set for Wednesday and Thursday, the league will monitor the path of Ivan as well as the forecasts for South Florida.

The league is expected to announce the status of the remaining games in the series on Monday. Tickets are available through

The last time two teams played at a neutral stadium (not counting international games) was April 15, 1998 -- Yanks vs Angels at Shea Stadium (damage in Yankee Stadium forced the game to be moved)

The last time two teams played at a neutral stadium (not in the home city of either team, or international) was when Oakland played six games in 1996 at Cashman Field in Las Vegas, NV., to open the season (April 1 and 3 vs. Toronto and April 4-7 vs. Detroit).
