Magic # is 6!

Ok... all you Cubs fans... What team in the NL wildcard chase concerns you the most?? I think that SD is pretty much out and they are barly hanging on, so I don't really care about them. The 'Stros tore the Cards apart last night, so they still have potential... But I know that St. Louis won't take that beating lightly, and they'll come back with both barrels smoking tonight. The Giants are the team that scares me the most right now. They are only one game back and a lot can happen with 6 games remaining. I want to hear from you Cubs fans and see what you think about the end of the regular season.

Well, thank you for answering my question and filling my thread with usefull information to back up your opinions.

But since you did answer, I'll give you a second chance. What facts do you have to prove your theory? The Cubs should lay down now... Ok, why do you think that? You obviously don't think they can win the wild card. (which wasn't even part of the question I was posing) But I want to know why.

Would it be because the Cubs are 88-68 (.564)?
Maybe because they have 6 games left, all at home where they are 44-32 (.578)?
Or maybe it's because the are playing Cincinatti, who they are 9-6 against and the Braves who they are 2-1 against?
Could it be because of the last 15 games they have won 12??

Tell me WHY you think the Cubs should just lay down...

Ok Pirate since you can't tell, I'm a Giants fan. The biggest problem with your Cubbies is the lack of a closer. If the games are close and Hawkins or Farnsworth are called on to close the game I don't think the can do it. The starting pitching is erratic and with Maddux being your best pitcher right now is not a good sign. The only good thing you have going for you is Ramirez but he is no Bonds.

Hawkins has 24 saves with 5 wins. Granted he also blew his 8th save over the weekend, but 24 saves is pretty damn good. Farnsworth isn't a closer, he's the setup man, but even at that, he is still 4 and 4 at 61 IP. I think that is pretty respectable. As for starting pitching, you obviously didn't do your homework. Maddux is NOT our best starting pitcher. Maddux is 15-10 with an ERA of 3.70. While that is good, and it's his 17th season with 15 or more wins in a season, but Zambrano is 16-8 with a 2.60 ERA. To me, that's more substantial. So, that's 2 great starting pitchers. Clement has 9 wins and Wood has 8. So, with those 4 starting picthers, and the options of pitching Prior or Rusch I think we have a pretty strong starting rotation. I don't know what you're talking about... And as for Ramirez, he is probably our best hitter. I will give you that, but as for not having anything else?? You find me a better team in the wild card hunt with a better bottom half of the line-up. Sosa hit his 20th double last night, Nomar is hitting .316 and went 3 for 3 last night, and let's not forget about Alou. Even under the recent negative media scrutiny, he is still hitting .284 with 37 HR and 99 RBIs. You guy, roid-head Bonds is hitting .372 (because of a walk as not counting as an at bat) with 45 HR and 101 RBIs. That's not that impressive especially when that's about all you have. I could go on and on, but the whole point of this thread was to get an opinion from Cubs fans about which team concerns us the most about the wild card race.

Ok, I admit I misspoke about the starting pitching, Zambrano is very immpressive. But I will stand by my other opnions of your team. As for "roid head Bonds" we'll see we the drug test come in. Sammy doesn't look so good without cork in his bat and being off the roids.

Oh, you won't get any arguments from me about that. All I said is that he hit his 20th double last night. With that many extra base hits, that helps push runners across home plate. But I will be the first Cubs fan to tell you that Sosa is probably the # 1 ass-hat on the team. He made ONE good diving catch a week or so ago, but that's no justification for the consistant strike outs, hopping or media bashing. Grade A ass-hat.

But you have to admit that the Cubs have a much more favorable schedule for the end of the season than your Giants. They have to play LA, which will be tough, but they shouldn't have a problem with CO at home. But like I said, a lot of things can happen in 6 games. I will say this though, if the Cubs win 3 of the next 6, I think that will be enough to take the wild card.

It is generally accepted that 30+ saves is respectable. I wouldn't want to depend on Hawkins to save any game, after watching him all season. That said, the Giants have no closer either...

But you also have to consider that Hawkins didn't have the closer job all season. There was a time when Dusty decided we were going to close by commitee for a while. Hawkins didn't get to close every game.

I believe Hawkins has a 2-8 record when closing with the Cubs are within 1 run. That's gonna kill us WHEN we play St Louis in the playoffs

Of course Bonds is going to test negitive for roids. It has been all year, that is enough time to get the stuff out of your system. Why did he not take the test earlier in the year? Lets see, becaus ehe was on roids! Are you saying Sosa was on roids, but not Bonds? Open your eyes they both were.
Who do the Giants have other than Schmidt and Bonds? You say we have a closer problem? What about your closer? Hermansen(sp)?
Come on, this thing is over and so is the Giants season.
I want St. Louis in the NLCS!
