Bears finally sign a veteran QB

The Bears inked Brian Griese to a five year deal last night. He is expected to be the #2 QB behind Rex Grossman.

I think this is a huge signing for the Bears. Griese has been in the league seven years and has a career passer rating over 80. If Grossman goes down again, or just turns out to stink, then Griese is capable of coming in and winning games.

Look for the Bears to be done in FA now. They are probably looking to extend Lance Briggs contract as their number one priority right now. He is also probably going to get a big contract after going to the Pro Bowl and seeing the fat contract Julian Peterson just got in Seattle.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Hey, if Grossman stays healthy he can be hot! He reads the field well.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

I really don't think the bears need a receiver with moose and bradley and the compliment of guys like berriman and gates, etc. they will do okay. I do agree that a TE or a fullback that can catch the ball out of the backfield would be a very nice compliment to the team (probably TE more then fullback, as the bears have historically had little luck with screen passes behind the line of scrimage)

I am hoping the bears get a tight end in the draft, but we will see

Griese had knee surgery in the off season, I would bet that is why he settled for a #2 job. Rex better hold it together this year.

Consensus right now is that the Bears will take a CB in round one and get a TE in either round 2 or 3 since TE is unusually deep with talent this year. I personally would love to see us take a playmaker WR like Sinorice Moss in round 1. Our WR core is absolutely terrible. Moose is coming off a terrible year, Berrian is too small and gets hurt every year, Bradley is also small and coming off major knee surgery, Gage flat out stinks. We need a fast little fella WR that can run after the catch and split zone defenses.

I think the Bears will draft one of these players in round one:

Antonio Cromartie - CB - Florida State
Tye Hill - CB - Clemson
Sinorice Moss - WR - Miami
Chad Jackson - WR - Florida

I think the biggest benefit in the draft for the Bears comes from the TE position...they need help at CB, but they have essentially NO Tight End...apart from being a huge part of modern offense, a good TE is a great outlet for developing quarterbacks...and finally a real backup

I was waiting for you to make this thread flinchy.

Anyways, yeah I think the Griese signing was smart, unfortunately I think they might have gave him a little too much cash (I think I read $5M salary and $5M bonus this year?) But, that's a pretty high quality backup.

In regards to the draft, I think the Bears have their needs for a lockdown CB and a solid TE at about the same rate of desire ... so basically I think they're going to let the draft go on and whichever player falls to them that's higher on their board they're gonna take. I'm sure they'd love a dominant TE, but if a speedster corner falls to them you need that. Especailly because Jerry Azumah is announcing his retirement today due to his hip injury and apparent reinjury to his neck.
