Bears Draft WTF?

Two fast defensive backs that are return guys.

How the F does this help our offense?

I'm pissed

A track star in high school, Manning signed a letter of intent with Nebraska but didn't have a high enough SAT score to enter at the school. He enrolled at Abilene Christian in January 2002 and emerged as an explosive playmaker after sitting out a year due to transfer rules.

SAT not high enough for Nebraska?

I thought if you walk upright you can get into Nebraska.

Didn't the Brain Trust Lawrence Phillips go there?

Obviously everyone has it wrong. Defense was the problem on this team...we really didnt need anyone on offense because we were a machine last year. Jerry knows best.

It's an odd draft for sure, but remember we scored 21 points on offense in our playoff loss. It was our inability to cover Steve Smith that lost us that game. Safety was the #1 position targeted going into the draft but I think they were hoping that Donte Whitner or Jason Allen would be there at #26. When they were both gone, they took the trade to get a third round pick back rather than stretch for someone. I think the Bears had problems this draft with players they targeted/projected to be around for their picks getting snapped up earlier than expected. Some years this happens and their is nothing you can do to avoid it other than overpay for a player by trading up.

My takes on these picks:

2 Manning, Danieal SS 5-11 201 Abilene Christian

This guy was a legend in division 2A. Good value for where he was taken and he fills a need. Biggest question mark is his ability to learn the position in NFL. I like this pick but I think I would rather have had Demeco Ryans at 26 to finalize the LB position.

2 Hester, Devin WR 5-11 189 Miami (Fla.)

Explosive return man. Has the ability to take it to the house every time he touches the ball. I don't know why they list him as a WR when he will most likely play a little bit of CB for us. Biggest concern is toughness. Great pick IMO.

3 Dvoracek, Dusty DT 6-3 305 Oklahoma

A very talented player with character concerns. Was kicked off Oklahoma team for behavior issues. Tank Johnson's injury creates the need for this pick but its ironic because Tank is becoming a bad behavior case as well. I don't like this pick. I think Maurice Stovall or Dave Thomas would have made much more sense.

4 Williams, Jamar ILB 6-0 250 Arizona State
5 Anderson, Mark DE 6-4 258 Alabama
6 Runnels, J.D. FB 5-11 237 Oklahoma
6 Reed, Tyler G 6-3 307 Penn State

I like the choice of positions in the later rounds but I don't know much about any of these players other than Mark Anderson. I liked Anderson going into the draft and was amazed he fell all the way to the fifth. Anderson's pick up means it likely M. Haynes is either cut or moved to DT.

Overall, I think this draft was a C- or D+. They missed on their early targets for sure but did make some decent back up selections. We'll know for sure in a few years....

All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never under estimate your opponent (mentality). Expect the unexpected (could work out in your favor). Two, take it outside(or to a table). Never start anything inside the Bar unless it's absolutely necessary. And three, be nice.
