Bears vs. Seahawks Recap

This thread should start with a picture of Matt Hasselbeck on his ass looking at Tommie Harris walking away. That would put a graphic on the kind of ass-kicking the Bears laid on the Seahawks tonight. The score of 37-6 doesn't even do justice to how one-sided was this game. The Bears dominated from start to finish and put the pain on all game long. Mike Ditka could not have done better. It was that good!

ON OFFENSE:
17/31 232 yards and 2TDs. That was Rex Grossman's stat line for the night. It might seem his accuracy was off tonight but it's more accurate to mention the type of throws he was making tonight. He was going downfield and he was throwing the ball away when his receivers were covered. He was also victimized by a few drops thought most were tough catches to make. In Minnesota Rex looked shakey in the face of the blitz. Tonight he looked happy when he saw the pressure coming. It's still too early to say he has matured, but he looked like one of the elite QB's in the league tonight. Berrian and Moose both caught deep TD strikes and John Gilmore dropped what could have been number three. Moose might also have had two if it wasn't for a pass interference penalty that set up a one year Thomas Jones TD. The passing game is for real and that was proven tonight against a Seahawk defense that make Eli Manning look like an undrafted rookie for three quarters last week.

Once the Bears took the lead, they turned to the combo of Jones and Benson. The Seahawks might have had the fourth rated rush defense before tonight, but Jones hit 98 yards on 24 carries and Benson tacked on 37 yards on 11 carries. Both backs broke long runs with TJ hitting a 29 yarder and Benson a 19 yarder. TJ also added two short TD scores. The running game closed the Seahawks out so hard that with 7 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter Mike Holmgren called it quits and put his reserve QB Seneca Wallace into the game. I guess 31 points is tough to overcome, but i've never seen a coach admit defeat with that much time left on the clock.

ON DEFENSE:
The night started with a scare as the Seahawks went 57 yards on their opening drive and scored with a 23 yard field goal. The offense responded with a 69 yard TD drive and the defense woke up. They played lights out until the final drive of the 2nd quarter when they let up another FG drive. They must have took it personal because they came out in the second half and shut the NFC's best offense out!

You cannot say enough about Tommie Harris and Ricky Manning Jr. tonight. Tommie Harris shut down almost every key third down the Seahawks faced by getting pressure up the middle. He finished with 2 sacks and 3 tackles but he played an MVP type game on almost every play. Ricky Manning Jr. intercepted two passes and returned one for a TD that was callled back on a penalty. He was spying Hasselbeck so effectiveley that the entire Seahawk passing game shut down. Big game for our Denny's matador!

The entire defense played well and the tackling was 180 degrees from the sloppy play we saw last week. I don't think I saw one missed tackle. Lance Briggs in particular was flying to the ball and cleaning up all the short passes. Vasher was so good in coverage I only saw one pass thrown his way the whole game. It was a beautiful game by a team with a mission.

ON SPECIAL TEAMS:
Devin Hester might have been the only spot of concern for the Bears tonight. He fumbled the ball three times but recovered two himself and the third was picked up by Ricky Manning Jr. Robbie Gould continued his consistency by hitting another three field goals. Coverage was excellent on both kickoff and punt teams. Hester will pull it together so I wouldn't read too much into his drops tonight. He was trying to make a highlight and with the lead, he was taking chances he might otherwise not have taken.

OVERALL:
Straight up ass kicking for four quarters. In a nationally televised game against the supposed best team in the NFC, the Bears took control of the game in all three phases and planted their flag. The Bears are contenders and just might be the best team in football. They showed no weakness tonight and I think they could have beaten the best from any team on this night. Coming into this game, I didn't think they were ready for the Seahawks. Mike Holmgren has had the Bears number for over a decade. Lovie Smith showed him that these are not the Bears he is used to. Ron Turner and Chico Rivera showed what they can do in a big game. Buffalo comes to town next week and unless the Bears party the whole week, it should be fairly easy victory. I predict something like 23-7 for the Bears.

Great game, me and my buddy were talking about this last night, we're pretty sure the Bears haven't given up an offensive touchdown all year. Packers, and Detroit didn't score one, and zero last night. Pretty sure the only touchdown for Minnesota was off the interception.

16 quarters and the defense hasen't let a single touchdown thru. And we have and offense that actually moves the ball and scores

should be a good year

The defense let up a TD drive to Jon Kitna to start the 2nd half against Detroit. We haven't allowed a passing TD yet. The stat I saw last night was that we have allowed 1 TD drive in the last 44 posessions. That is simply amazing.

Da Bears really impressed me last night. They dominated that game from the beginning. Seattle is no slouch so they beat up a good team. This could be a special year if Rex stays healthy.

I wasn't sure who to start in my fantasy league, Hasselbeck or Grossman. Everybody told me to start Hasselbeck because he has better receivers, but I decided to start Rex, which was a good move on my part. I may start him the rest of the season!

Thankfully I am starting to sound like a broken record.

Flinchy-Great recap.

As I said after the the GB game and the Lions game I might of wrote it up a little different and shorter.

Kinda like this:

Seahawks got pwned!

That is all.

flinchy, as always amazing write up.

The only thing I would like to add, is that last night, the city of chicago was behind that team. I had never heard soldier field so loud prior to last night.

Great write-up Flinchy!

Nobody wants to say it, but you all know your thinking it. Theres only 2 other undefeated teams in the NFL. If there Bears stay healthy and continue to play with this passion, then this could be our year.

This is the most complete Bears team I have seen since I was riding my BMX bike around with my Bears helmet and superman cape on! (Ok, thats a lie. I did that last year.) But I digress, this is a SOLID / WHOLE team. Hell, even our kicker is having a standout season!

No kidding. I was listening to ESPN radio and one of their pundits predicted a Bears v. Bengals Superbowl. They're definitely firing on all cylinders. That was a fun game to watch.

Me too. I think my favorite aspect of those was how numerous they were and how they often resulted in scoring.

Please....no one mention the injury report or health status. I think that's the only thing that could derail this team.

I seriously don't see any team that is playing as well in all aspects of the game as we are. Our offense dropped 37 on a very good Seattle defense. Our defense has shut everyone and everything down this year. Our special teams are making plays, hitting all of the kicks and even returning the ball very well.

Think if you were an opposing coach, where would I attack the Bears? I would pray that I could run the ball well enough to move the chains a few times. I would blitz Grossman with safeties and LB's and hope he made a mistake. But that's just it. I would be hoping the Bears beat themselves rather than taking advantage of an area where I know I am better!

Bears! It should be a Chicago day off after a prime time performance like that. Prime time has not been our friend over the years.

The big test will be NE in a couple of weeks. Dillon looks good and the rookie Marroney is just plain sick. If they can shut them down & Brady in NE I would book my tickets for the bowl.
