Bears vs. Dolphins Recap

The Bears took a beating today as the visiting Miami Dolphins beat the Bears by the score of 31 -13. It was a physical game with hard hitting on both sides of the ball. The difference in this game was turnovers as the Bears coffed up the ball 6 times that resulted in 28 points for the Dolphins. Miami on the other hand kept the ball only giving it up twice on two Joey Harrington INTs. Ronnie Brown did most of the hard work putting up 157 yards on 29 attempts. Harrington finished off the drives with 3 TD passes. To make matters worse, Berrian, Urlacher and McGowan all suffered injuries during the game. We'll see if any are serious.

ON OFFENSE:
Bernard Berrian left the game after the first series with a rib injury and our offense went downhill fast. Grossman looked out of synch all day and Miami got good pressure on him most of the game. He finished 15/35 for 185 yards 1TD and 3INTS and a fumble. It was another step back against a good Miami defense. Moose made a very nice TD catch but otherwise looked flat and dropped a couple balls. Gage caught two balls for 51 yards but fumbled the ball after his big 34 yard catch.

Jones and Benson did some decent work but neither showed any big play ability at all. Jones got 69 yards and 20 carries and Benson picked up 34 yards on 8 carriers. The Bears were playing from a defecit most of the game though and some of those yards came against a soft front.

The offense as a whole played poorly including the OL. Miami is a good defense but there is no excuse for how poorly we played. The need of a speed receiver who can stretch the field was obvious as once Berrian was out, the Dolphins crowded the line and Grossman was unable to beat them deep. I have to wonder where Mark Bradley is and why he didn't play? Other than Berrian, Bradley is the only receiver we have with speed.

ON DEFENSE:
The abscence of Mike Brown was clear today as Todd Johson did not get it done. The Dolphins were able to throw the ball in key situations and convert third downs. The DL played average, but well below their potential. The Phins concentrated on quick throws and draws and sweeps to keep the DL out of the game. The LBs were caught out of position quite a bit as well. It was just plain ugly.

Alex Brown had a nice highlight reel INT and Vasher came up with a nice play for another INT for the only two turnovers for the Bears. Perhaps the most telling stat of the game, the Bears had 0 sacks.

ON SPECIAL TEAMS:
Devin Hester put the ball on the turf twice and one was on his own 5 yard line. His two returns for 11 yards didn't exactly offset the damage. Robbie Gould conitued his perfect streak hitting 2/2 FGs from 38 yards both times.

OVERALL:
Give Miami credit for playing a very good physical game. They were well coached and had a good plan to beat the Bears. Their lines did a good job of running the ball and stopping the run. The Bears were unable to adjust or execute today and turned the ball over too many times to win. This game came down to mistakes and the Bears made far more than the Dolphins. The Bears go on the road next week and play the Giants who squeaked out a win against Houston today. It's going to be another tough game as NY has a fierce pass rush and their offense is explosive. I'm going to wait to see our injury report before predicting that game......

Gage wasnt the only stinker in that game. I think it will be a GOOD wakeup call for this coming up road trip. Who knew the Miami front could bring pressure like that...1-6 my arse...bunch of con artists! Rex didnt have much timing with his receivers and Im not sure why considering last weeks mauling. Run the ball my arse...they werent getting squat. Cant turn over the ball that much, even if it didnt result in as many points as it did today, just cant do that. Rex needs to still learn that stuff. Forget this one and move on. Why oh why don't we ever get a Tom Brady?

28 points off of 6 turnovers. Any team will lose 99% of the time when you do that unless you're playing the Cardinals.

Man, I'm glad I was out enjoying the day instead of watching the game.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Next week's Giants vs. Bears game will be the game of the season. I am looking forward to that one.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

Minnesota and Seattle had winning records. Both are good teams.

The Bears are still the best team in the NFC, but they have weaknesses that were exposed against Miami. Miami found a way to run the ball and that helped them win the TOP and keep Joey Harrington from turning the ball over more than twice. The Bears need to shore up their defensive adjustments and play more disciplined when teams try to beat them with quick passes, screens and draws. They also need to be able to adjust on offense when opposing teams start blitzing linebackers like Minnesota, Arizona and Miami have done. The best way to beat that is to hit quick passes over the middle. Grossman has never excelled at the three step 5 yard route over the middle. He's too short probably to see the middle clearly.

The Giants game is going to be HUGE now as two losses in a row is a streak. Losing streaks are BAD. The good news is that Urlacher sprained a toe so he should be back 100% pretty soon. Berrian is questionable with bruised ribs so we are going to need either Davis, Gage or Bradley to step it up in a hurry. If we don't have a deep threat teams are going to load up in the box and play us like they did last year.
