Let's welcome the 2007 cubs!

How long do you think it will take before Lou Piniella wigs out like Lee Elia did back in 83?

Sound file only, definitely NOT WORK SAFE (*** NWS***) http://www.speakeasy.org/~bucky/lee_elia_br.mp3

Bears are dead. Cubs are coming to life. Discuss.

No joke!

I can't wait! Tickets go on sale in less than 2 weeks! Derrick Lee is gonna be healthy, Pryor is gonna be healthy or I'll kill him, and Wood is gonna be their new closer or Piniella's getting a mouthfull of drunk obscenities from me!

I think it's gonna be a good year!

But we still need some pitching.

I can't even deal with thinking about the cubs right now, I still have not recovered from football season which is still not over b/c the combine and draft are coming up.

Yeah, this has gotten as old as all those empty seats at The Cell before they had a world series team night after night, year after year. We don't go in your threads and talk shit ever. I don't know why they do it. Regardless, I've never felt the need to talk smack to Sox fans. Sox fans must be very jealous of the deep commitment and brotherhood we Cubs fans enjoy. Shit, I'd be jealous.

What really pisses me off is that I'm a baseball fan, and I live in Chicagoland. That means I get TWO teams to root for. The Cubs have always been my favorite, but I root for the Sox too. Fuckin assholes at bars, and everwhere else is what spoils the Sox for me.

Ok well hopefully I won't get shit for this, as I am a Sox fan posting in a Cubs thread, but I completely agree. I'm sorry, but if the Cubs made it to the World Series, I'd still be excited and still root for them the whole way. Granted, the Sox winning everything meant more to me b/c I've followed them ever since I was 6, but I've still gone to Cubs games and cheered them on.

I will admit, however, that I do get caught up in the rivalry alot. I mean come in, it IS a rivalry! That's what makes it great, we have good against evil in our own town! Who will conquer this year? Who do the baseball Gods favor? It's fun as hell, from both sides. Now even though I get caught up in it, I do always remember that it's just a game. No more. I dont' get pissed when the Cubs win, or when they beat us on our own turf. I go along with it, because I know a brighter day will come when we fight on your battlefield. That's it. Have some fun with the rivalry, but don't become too serious.

Zambrano is really getting on my nerves. I dont like players DEMANDING to renegotiate their contracts...then are given a huge raise..but its still not good enough.

His ego will get in the way this year..I hope not

I could agree with this, if it weren't a CONSTANT bashing anytime the subject gets brought up. I love a good rivalry, but I don't get the same attitude/obnoxious behavior from the Cardinals fans that I come across.

That's what it's really about, is the obnoxious level that most Sox fans take it to.

I was in a small bar that had about six people in it when the Sox won one of their playoff games two seasons ago, and listened to som asshole pound on the bar and scream "you can put it on the booooooarrrd" for a goddamned hour after the game was over. Just an example.

That's not obnoxious, because you know, don't lie, that when the Cubbies do that, you and every other Cubs fan near you will go crazier than that. Funny, though, how Cubs fans became Sox fans when the Sox were winning in the playoffs. You could try and tell me it didn't happen (not saying you did), but I watched a World Series Sox game in Lincoln Park, and every time I've been there to watch a Cubs game (which happened alot b/c my friend lives three blocks from there), I'd get so much shit for wearing a Sox hat or shirt. Then the night of the Sox World Series game in Lincoln Park, the BARTENDER who I knew well was cheering for them claiming "I'm a Chicago fan!" Come on now, I've heard her tons of times telling me how much she'd never cheer for the Sox, and then this. Every single person there that night was cheering for the Sox, and I didn't get any shit. We all stayed there and partied, and nobody called us obnoxious because they knew we waited a helluva long time for it. Which is what I'd do when the Cubbies win...I'd cheer for them, and know that they'd have a ton of celebrating time because they deserve it.

Don't get me wrong, big ass bar in the ANY part of the city, I'd expect some revelling in the big win. But, the bar I was at had me and the gf shooting pool, a bartender, and a couple other people. It was dead and quiet except this guy.

I agree, lots of people are gonna hop on the bandwagon when a team does well.

I quit wearing Sox gear in '94. I was really pissed at baseball/players for a few years.

And I agree, any fan of any team can get obnoxious.

At least we're not down to soccer hooliganism yet.
