Anyone play hockey?

I haven't played organized hockey since high school, but I think I may get on a league this winter.

Does anyone here play? Where at if you do?

South side. Southwest Ice arena, Homewood Flossmoor and Orland Park. You probably want to sign up for a mens C draft league. Careful because in some of the A and B house leagues in the area there are some good players. A lot of washed up ex semi pro, and college guys that are damn good players.

<---every chance I get.

Grasshopper, when you getting out to the NW burbs, HF and OP are a bit far?

Keyhole, there's Center Ice in Dupage, just off North Ave and Main Street, Carol Stream at North Ave and Gary, West Meadows north on 355/53 to Euclid and the new Hoffman rink by Woodfield.

Carol Stream is kind of an old shit hole but the other 3 are newer and nice. I know Center Ice has had men's leagues for years, West Meadows has rat M/W/F 6-8 with a bunch of old guys that is comparable to no check high school hockey if you're an early bird.

But check with Center Ice for men's league if that's what your heart is set on

I live next to Seven Bridges in Woodridge, and will probably be playing some rat hockey there, but I am in a league in Darien at the Sportsplex.

I play Goalie. We got owned last night I think by guys like Grasshopper said in his post. Being the goalie it felt like it was 3 on 1 constantly. Needless to say it made for a very tired Friday so far. Game started at 10:45 so that didn't help. Damn groin is killing me and I think my left shoulder is gonna hurt for a few days. Second game in after not playing for 7 years so I'm a bit rusty right now as well.

Blackhawks Wings on Saturday night I'll be there cheering on my Wings!

Tonsil hockey ftw

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I've played at quite a few ice arena's around here and frankly I can't believe Carol Stream is still standing  That place is like playing in the dark.

The YMCA I belong to has an ice rink and I think they run rat hockey quite often, I don't know about leagues though.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Also, any good online forums to pickup gear cheap?

No but go to Play it Again sports much less expensive than retail.

I wish I had seen this in time; HNA had their second (and possibly final) evaluation skate last night. You pay more, but it is a nationwide adult league.

Since you are in Elmhurst, you may want to check out the Addison house league. Bensenville used to have one, but I heard they no longer do.

Have you ever been to Saint's Spectrum in Bridgeview? We had another nickname for it.

You could try www.hockeymonkey.com, but I don't know how much you'd save.

I second Play It Again Sports - there is one just east of Strats, although the one in Downer's Grove has a better hockey selection, IMHO.

You could also try Jerry's Hockey warehouse in Schaumburg:

Thanks for all the info!

I may miss the boat on most leagues as I still need to put together some equipment, it's been awhile since I've played. I got invited onto a team at the Y MCA and I'll play rat hockey for awhile until I get back into the swing of things.

I'm still playing 5-7 games of softball a week so I don't really have time for hockey at this point anyways...

Well I got all my stuff together and have been playing a little bit. It was slow getting back into it at first, but I am getting it back and really enjoying myself

Does anyone know any places that run rat hockey at reasonable hours? Everything is middle of the night during the week that I have found.

I have been playing Sunday nights at 9pm at The Edge in Bensenville which is a pretty decent group of guys...

That's the thing about the beer leagues, they are all late at night after work. I come home from work and go to sleep for 4 hours, wake up at 10:30 and and go play hockey from 11/11:30 until whenever and get home by 2 or 2:30 and go back to sleep until 6:30 or 7 then wake back up and go to work. Beer leagues rock! BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
