Yup, we're going back to a good year being a .276 ba, 22 HR and 90 RBI.

Good interview with Barrett....

http://www.rrstar.com/business/columnists/x774170036

“I felt fortunate every day I put on that uniform,” said Barrett, who was traded to San Diego last June 20 — only 19 days after the headstrong catcher famously brawled with baseball’s most mercurial pitcher.

“Cubs fans go from generation to generation, and it’s cool to be a part of that. If you develop even a passing relationship with a person whose great-great-grandfather was a die-hard Cubs fan, it will change your outlook on what it means to be a Cubs player. Every day, you’re watched by a million people who care so deeply it’s hard to describe. To play for that team was a dream come true.”

He then smiled and said: “I tell you, to put that uniform on again, I’d fight anyone — in a heartbeat.”

It would be nice to start a baseball season without some star player testifying in front of congress or the grand jury. Baseball has come cleaning up to do.

The Cubs also have some holes to fill. It will be interesting to see how aggresive they are with trades when the team is up for sell.

I might just be drinking the Cubs Kool-aid, but I think they are pretty solid. They're bullpen is about as solid as its been in years and position players are all about set. They have a question mark in center, but I think they can carry Pie or Fuld if he struggles offensively because of the other good bats in the lineup. Look for D Lee and Ramirez to put up better numbers this year as they had down years. Look for the Dempster to grab a spot in the rotation and be an average starter as well as Lieber. Look for Murton to be traded by opening day.
There were alot of lineup changes and Lou was trying to figure out what he had early last year, there shouldn't be that kind of problem this year as Lou knows what he has..... Let's play ball!

The pitching staff is the key. They need consistency from the starting rotation...the offense will be there, if they can keep the pitching on par they'll be right there at the end of the season.

Football was way out in front of Baseball as far as a testing policy. Sure, guys have been busted using roids in Football but not to Baseball's degree. Heck, Ontario Smith was caught going through airport security with the Wizzinator (sp) on.

The next thing will be testing for HGH. You know there are tons of guys taking it if there is no approved test yet. Baseball just banned steroids a few years ago, way too late.. Football's biggest problem thus far has been players in off the field trouble. I hope they stay out in front of the PED problem.

It's a mistake to think that football has a handle on things. HGH is the drug of choice, and they don't test for it. Normal humans are not built like football players...they will topple as well. Watch what happens to the size of dudes that can run 4.7 40's (I'm talking D-ends and such here) when they start really testing. Eventually, testing will be performed by independent agencies, like the IOC does and MLB will now be doing. And this BS about blood tests is a joke too...all athletes have to submit blood tests every year for various reasons...the whole argument that testing for HGH due to privacy reasons is a farce.

It's not as big a deal in football to the general public because baseball is considered by more people to be pure. Football is much more entertainment based, and its history as far as statistics is basically non-existent. It's an ever changing game...baseball, until 1998, has been the same game for 75 years.

I don't think the blood test is the issue but the short amount of time HGH shows up in the system. They seem to think that they do not have a solid test yet. The NFL just needs to be proactive with it. I agree, the performance will go down but they should avoid the mockery of what has been going on in baseball.

Agreed. It seems to me though, that the NFL is walking a dangerously thin line here. Baseball's problem was that they refused to acknowledge the issue when it was plainly obvious to anyone that wanted to see it. Football, right now, is in the same boat...the biggest difference being that everyone EXPECTS these guys to be huge. We'll see what happens, but I'll bet it starts with a few HS kids getting hurt or worse from the stuff and it'll work its way up.
