Changing Wrigley

Let me make this clear.

I am not starting anything with Cub fans. I just am surprised with all of you on this site I have not seen any outrage against the proposed changes.
  • Naming Rights
    Rehab
    Possibly playing at The Cell
    Ticket Tax

1) The naming rights bothered me at first..for about a second. It will always be Wrigley no matter what name they call it on TV so I don't care. No fans will ever call it by it's corprate name in conversation. Maybe we can get a cool spokeswoman like that mushmouth Joan Cusak

2) It still has landmark status for the major parts of the field. They can't change the origional design to outside, outfield wall, scoreboard and some other stuff. The building is falling apart. It needs structual rehab to be around for another 100 years

3) I don't care if they play some games at the cell. so what. It will be nice to see the seats filled at the cell for once

4) I buy my tickets on ebay

Go Cubs!

Why don't sox fans worry about how crappy their team is going to be this year? Don't worry about us

Eric

I said I am not starting anything I was asking a question. I am not laughing or prodding.

I just read the letters to the editor in the paper and was curious how some of you guys felt.

It was a general Chicago Sports related question.

I was a little upset to see old Comisky Park go and they put that Monstrosity up that was awful till they started making changes to it.

I love Baseball and just wanted to know.

You can look at all of my posts and see I do not get involved in the bashing. I would ask any baseball fan a question like this.

If the Cubs did something like sign A. Rod I would like to know how you felt and if it was going to help the team or not.

+1

How many years can we have nets holding up the concrete so people don't get killed when it falls?

Those that know will always know and those that are bandwagoners won't. Well won't this be fun to see

I'd like to see it stay Wrigley, but like it was said, I'll always call it that no matter what they call it on tv.

I'm no fan of Comiskey, but it's much better now than when it opened. That place was like going to an airport to see a game. I wouldn't mind seeing the cubs play there some. It's easier to get to for me.

I don't get to enough games to care about a ticket tax. Wait, are you saying cook county doesn't already tax tickets? How did they miss that?

LMFAO I see this thread taking a turn for the worse rather fast.

Tho I wonder how many cub fans have to catch a STD from pissing in the trough's before they actually do something about the place

go time traveler style and go back in time, fuck his grandma, then shoot forward in time and then fuck his mom. Then return back to present state and call him a the product of two incest whores and hes your son and show video of you plowing the both members of his family. .

The building is falling apart, they have little choice. I think the naming rights will be a little different for the park. "wrigley field" brought to you by Budwieser or something like that.

It would be interesting to see the Cubs play a full season at the cell. Would they outdraw the Sox in their own park? We would find out once and for all how much Wrigley impacts the fan base.

As a Cubs fan I am not impressed with their squad this year at all..

1. Changing the name might not be a bad thing. I hold out hope that a sponsor tries to do right by fans and names is something like "Cubs Park" or "Cubs Park by (company name)." In the end as long as they stay the cubs and they keep the stadium similar to the way it is now, I'll be happy.

2. It definitely needs rehab. Not an easy task either if you are going to preserve the current structure. Other parks like Tiger stadium had issues with this and just decided to change venues instead leaving a historic and beautiful park to rot. Cubs can take all the time/money they need as long as they get it right and leave wrigley the way it is.

3. Games at the cell...probably the best chance that stadium has this year of seeing a team that will will at least half it's games Actually I'm fine with it. Although we have a rivalry, it would be necessary for the renovation and I'm sure the fans would be ok with it. This stuff happens all the time.

4. Money isn't an issue.

Are they talking about doing a full season at the Cell while they rehab Wrigley? I would think that would be a scheduling nightmare with both teams playing there

Yes, full season Scheduling is not too difficult.

The Mets and Yankees did it for two years while they did Yankee Stadium.

81 Home 81 Road different leagues. Plus there are only a handful of games even now where both teams play on the same day.

Its funny how cubs fans make fun of the sox is ok but when we give shit back "its all we do" you have a decent year, we also had a decent year a few years back..Only difference is we got a ring outta it. So enjoy the over 500 record and making it home in time to watch eveyrbody else play com playoffs

If and when they change the name at least cubs fans will know how we felt with comisky. All sox fans hated it when they built the new monstrosity and called it the cell. Most of us have bricks or seats from the old park. Yea make fun all you want of the cell but wrigley is heading down the same path.

With the cubs playing at comisky? You guys better hide your wallets

Way to stir the pot!

It will always be Wrigley Field...pisses me off they are even discussing a name change. It's like when Macy's changed Marshall Field's name...us die hards won't forget it.

Rehab...as long as they don't change the outside or anything that will loose or landmark/historical status like they did to Soldier Field...I'm ok with improvements.

Playing at the cell? Uhh, well..if it HAD to be done I've got cop friends, I could borrow a Kevlar vest to go into that part of the city. It may be the most regular ttendance that ball park has seen in a long time.

Ticket tax...well, we can't change it. We'll just have to bitch about it if it happens.

I don't know why it is that Sox fans are awlays so worried about what cubs fans are doing. Worry about your own team...

Ya, you're right...you had ONE year and a ring, I'll give you that (I went to the World series Mutha...game 1...and wore a CUBS shirt under my sweatshirt!). What happened the following year? Virtually the same team, and you fell apart...BAD...not a pretty site for all the fair weather fans at the cell. They jumped shipped like it was the titanic sinking! It just proved your championship was a fluke.

I think about the games happening at the cell for a year and I just reval at the fact that almost every Cubs fan out there will still kill to get tickets to a game and it will be quite the talk, but think about it 162 home games in the city of Chicago at one stadium. That should raise the state enough money to buy wrigley and then with the naming rights sale should give a shit ton of money for renovations, we get the ticket tax, but ticket prices won't go up again for 10 years, now this would be awesome!
