Chicago Fire Extinguishes the Revolution

A couple coworkers and I scored some free tickets to the Chicago Fire home opener last night against the New England Revolution, their bitter rival and the very team that knocked them out of the final round of the 2007 MLS Cup qualifiers with a single, miraculous bicycle-kick goal by Revolution forward Taylor Twellman.

Last night was payback, and with a slightly different 08 lineup for the Fire, a new coach, and new goalkeeper they took advantage of the Revolution's roster, themselves missing two injured strikers (including said Twellman).

I actually missed the first goal as I looked away for a second and, bam, 4 minutes in and the ball was already in the Revolution's net. The rest of the first half was the craziest game I've seen, as while the temperature dipped into the low 30s the rain started to turn into hail and I hid under my parka, a red card put the Rev down one player. Then another goal by the Fire. And another. And yet one more on a penalty kick by Blanco. By halftime it was a 4-0 romp.

The second half was scoreless, but the damage was already done. Couldn't have asked for a better game, but I'll wait until winter finally gets lost before going to the next one. I swear I saw it snowing last night during halftime.

watched the game with some friends and a heineken keg....it was a good game. Don't know about that red card....seemed a little harsh to me but maybe the ref saw something more than what the cameras saw.

Go FIRE!!!

I was sitting about 10th row, dead-even with the goal box on that side, it was pretty cheap. Although I don't know if a red card was quite warranted, given it was so early in the game, but hard to say.

Glad there's at least one other soccer fan on the board I'm tried of hearing about boring baseball games.

Do you have DirecTV or Comcast? Fox Soccer Channel and GoalTV broadcast a lot of UEFA games.

Most of the Fire games this year will be on My50, ESPN2 HD, and FSC.

I'd rather watch soccer over baseball but I'd rather watch racing over soccer. Still a little bit of Brit left in me.

I agree I am a subscriber to MOTOGP.com even though they keep increasing the price every year and reduce the benefits...but I still think its worth it.

I had the sports package with Comcast and watch euro soccer all the time. I played soccer my whole life. My brother played in Europe and my Dad also played in Greece. We will have to hook up and all go to a game togetrher.

I never claimed any type of playing ability. LOL. Back in England I was more into the rugby scene... That was over 12 years ago and I'm in terrible shape now.
